Both reels will work for you. The Elite has less braking overall but casts notably further than other Tatulas which is it’s primary advantage. I bought one for this purpose for crankbaits and it definitely does get me more distance.

The SLX MGL 70 casts further than both and imo brakes a little better than the Elite too (for long casts) but not as good as the 100.

So I bought a tatula elite for a really good price on ebay, but it is the pitching and flipping one. Will it still have the good distance that I bought it for? I’m going to use 12 lb line so the capacity shouldn’t really be a problem.

I haven't used the pitching and flipping, but probably not. The brake is tweaked so it starts pressure off slower, but you may have to thumb hell out of it when casting

I have the pitch and flip version and if I remember correctly, it has a shallower spool so not as much line capacity.

Can't confirm though because it is full of line. You might want to look up line capacities of both and compare,

Just looked them up and Daiwa site says line capacity is 125yds of 12# on regular Elite and 100yds on the Pitch and flip.

Guess that means 25% more line capacity on regular elite

Why not just try it first. It holds 300 feet of 12lb line. You'll never even come close to spooling it even with 17lb.

Because I want a reel that will cast far rather than for close quarters.

It's not an SV. It'll cast as far as you want, no different than any other Mag Z Daiwa.

Oh ok. So it will be as good as any other Daiwa but then better at pitching and flipping?
