I bought a used huddleston and it doesnt have too much paint let on the lure, kinda just showing the clear plastic towards the tail.

Does it still work and produce in clear water scenarios or am i better off just buying a new one with all the paint on the lure.

I prefer transparent hard baits and some of my best baits are the ones that are chewed up beyond recognition but still catch fish every year for me.

 

I've even sanded all the paint off of crankbaits and Jerkbaits I didn't like the color of and caught fish on those.

 

I'd toss it til it fulfills it's destiny and snaps off on a cast and flies into space like a big heavy  swimbait is prone to do! 

 

Bass aren't really too picky about color in general and I really like clear/transparent moving baits.

 

But maybe repainting it would be enjoyable for you and give you more confidence throwing it?  In that case - definitely repaint it!

Use as is. 

Paint may be subjective. I've caught more fish with heavy tungsten sinkers stripped of their black paint, bright and shiny. Seems the added flash when punching the dark underbrush gives the fish something to key in on. But if you must have color, just get some nail polish and paint away. It'll eventually come off again but at least you'll have something to do next time around on those long rainy days. 

 

 

Bass have more rod cells in their eyes vs cone cells which detect color. Some of the most beat up lures catch fish. I think we as fishermen put too much emphasis on color.
