MHX 6'10" Med-Heavy Elite Pro Rod Blank - NEPS82MHF-MHX (mudhole.com)

Looking at this bland to replace my favorite T-Rig Kistler rod with the same specs that fell victim to a power window. Wanting to know if anyone has any experience with these blanks? This rod length is rare and even if I cut down a 7' rod they always are heavier than I want. I like this because it has the exact same specs as the Kistler California Series Senko rod my Tahoe window ate.

If all you know are the subjective descriptions, "MH", "Mod-Fast," for example, you may not have the match you think you are getting.  Subjective descriptions are not even consistent within brands.  You need to have CCS numbers to match action and power well.

If the lure weight recommendation for the proposed blank matches your plans then you probably are not far off.

I have built two Elite Pro 6 1/2 foot blanks into rods for my use.  They are very nice.  Their True Natural Frequencies are quite high indicating fast recovery from deflection and high moduli.

Afraid I can't help on the MHX blank but if you like that length the have a look at falcon.  They have two rods of that length, one a MH, the other a lighter H which some might call MH.  The MH ("topwater/finesse jig) is very light weight.

CCS power is 545g and to me upper lure weight 3/4oz is accurate.

My experience with MHX Elite Pro blanks is good.

Based on blank diameter and the way it fishes I personally would not call this a MH. My unexpert opinion would rate this as a medium+? Itys heavier than any medium I have used but not as heavy as any other MH I have owned.

Based upon measurements I have taken the above blank is the closest thing I have ever found. The original Kistler was made on a Rainshadow RX7 blank per information I found online.

Keep in mind that on-line is not reliable, and RS has made a bazzilion RX7 blanks.  RS RX7 is generally "good stuff." What "measurements," CCS?  thx

What I saw was someone took off the handle of a Kistler California Series rod and he posted pictures of the RX7 sticker on the butt off the rod. Tried a 6-10 Falcon rod and it was heavier than I liked. Also the handle was longer than what I wanted. Just going to make a custom rod on the Elite blank and see if it works for me?

For measurements I went with the width of the blank above the reel seat compared to other rods and tip diameter. As for CCS while I know what that is I don't know how I would measure it on a made rod with 1.5" of tip broken off.

If you have the tip piece you can repair it and the CCS numbers will be basically what the rod was before repair.  If you want to go to that trouble.  If you measure it as is the action angle will come out just slightly lower than the unbroken rod was and the power slightly lower than the unbroken rod was.  This procedure will result in a rod that fishes essentially the same as it did before getting broken:  https://www.rodbuilding.org/library/repair-oquinn.html

I have used graphite sleeves for their thinner wall thickness (than glass)  and they work just fine.

Do you know which Falcon it was you tried and which series?  Based on what you're describing above (a medium+) that would line up with the Finesse jig rod.

thanks

This does not prove it's a Rainshadow if it just said "RX7."

Did you mean to quote me on that one or were you trying to quote some other text?

Can’t vouch for the Kistler comparison but the elite Pro is a good blank. I use a lot of MHX blanks and have been very pleased. Their labeled casting weight and actions while subjective as always, have been what most would expect imo.

Actually said Rainshadow in cursive and the pic I believe was on rodbuilding.org.

After Christmas I will take some pics of the rod alongside other MH rods for reference.

That's pretty conclusive.  that means that that model of Kistler rod is not using state of the art material.  Good material, but not the highest modulus.
