Daiwa Tatula 100 with 'hyper drive digigear'

Featured Replies

Anyone fished these yet? If I understand correctly, they have the same gear cut as the zillion. Wondering if they are the same level of butter smooth.

I will be ordering one shortly to find out.  I’ll report when I get it.

The Tatula 80 (also hyper drive) is butter.  I bet the new 100 is also.

I dont own a zillion but I have Tatulas and Tatula Elites.  I am enjoying this 100 (got from Digitaka Cheap) more than the others. It casts small baits so good and is buttery smooth on the retrieve.  Time will tell if it will hold up as well as the others.

Received my new Tatula 100 a couple days ago, we'll see how I like it after the end of the season...

ordering mine next week.   What’s your first impressions?

I do have zillions and steez and a tatula 80 to compare too but this tatula has peaked my interest now with the hyper drive.   Once you go hyper drive.  Nothing else is good enough.  LoL

Does that frame nose remind you of something...

I am sorry, I just can't get over that image in my mind.

Didn’t even know Philtrum was a word.

Hmmm…. I called in sick today for work because I learned something new today so I don’t need to work.   LoL

I don't know yet myself, I wanted to try this reel since I have numerous of the 2017 Tatula SV models. I always like to put a good season worth of use on a new reel to give a honest review. I have tried the Tatula 80 but for some reason I didn't love it, maybe it was the reel size itself. I think I'll like the new Tatula 100 it feels really nice, I like the frame size and I also like the finish on the reel. I think the finish might be more durable than the older Tatula models.

sorry I meant first impressions out of the box.    Curious how they’ll do for a full season.   I enjoy the tatula 80.   It’s a small tank but I feel this tat 100 will be the best all around reel due to the size.   So it closer to the tatula elite/sv 103 frame size?

I compared my SV 103 weight was 7.4 oz to the 24 Tatula 100 was 6.8 oz (with no line on the reels) It looks like the width of the frame are near identical but the length/height of the new Tatula 100 is smaller & more compact.

JDM is available too. $115 plus shipping, or 126 on the "use amazon but search the japanese listing name" trick. In this case "24 tatula tw 100" because that's how it was listed in japan.

I can see some use cases where with the hyper gears I probably wouldn't care about the SV boost spool.

Handled one at the classic expo.  It was crazy smooth, but I didn't know the new frame was more compact.  It felt pretty perfect.  I was impressed, and I plan on ordering a couple.  What a great time to be a tackle junky 🙉👏

My second one is suppose to arrive on Monday. :Copy_of_icon_thumleft:

Sweet.  They make it hard to justify spending more.

Just took mine out yesterday to try for a couple hours.   Awesome reel.   Really impressed with this reel and I think I’ll order another one or two for back up.

I have not held a '21 zillion, but it is crazy smooth, like my tat 80.  Throw a spool on there from Ali-X, and it should hang with nearly anything.  Hyperdrive changed the game.  Now, you pay more for a higher model only for tighter tolerances.  Aftermarket spools have become inexpensive and perform very well.

that Tat 80 is zillion smooth.  I have one and it’s pretty impressive.  This Tat 100 is just as good so far.  I’ll put it through its paces this summer.  The zillion is still top notch and I don’t see the need to get any more Steez reels.  Having said that.  I’d still get more zillions if the price is right but for now you can get 2 Tatula 100 from Japan for the price of 1 zillion.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but how exactly do I tune one of these? I purchased a JDM one as an upgrade to my crappy bait caster I learned on but I’m a little confused as to how to tune it given the whole magforce brake thing. I accidentally messed with the tension knob which is apparently a no no and I’m a little worried at not being able to set it back to where it was. Do I just leave the tension knob alone and turn the magforce dial until it doesn’t backlash anymore or something?

Just set the tension knob for no tension but don't have the spool sliding side to side wildly.  Just back it off until it slides side to side just a little to confirm you have no tension.  Set the magnetic dial in the middle setting and off you go.  Scroll the dial with your thumb while palmign the reel a few clicks up or down to get more control or more distance.  Scroll to max brake to skip.  Ezpz.

What's your thoughts on all these now?

As a Tatutal hater since their introduction, the new tat100 and 200 are amazing for their price. And yes, their gears are as good as on the zillion, and the reason why they're this good. You can also see the gear price on PLAT, it's as expensive as on a zillion. Replace all bushing to bearings, and it's a Zillion 1.5.
