St Croix Legend Xtreme Rods

Featured Replies

Hello I am more of a g loomis and megabass rods person but just recently pick up a new Legend Xtreme 7'4 heavy for almost half price off. How versatile are these rods? This rod looks beautiful and can't wait till opener to use it.

They were built for versatility. I have the 7’1 mhxf xtreme, and 3 others in the elite/x  lines. My 7’4 heavy is my favorite swim jig, 6 inch single hook swimbait, and heavy reaction rod. I’ve thrown A-rigs on it, and even used it to punch. The bottom end is kinda a lie, it’s really a half oz and above stick.

Nice look like it was a good buy for me and will fit well. I have a older model legend elite also. Are these more sensitive then the elite and x or about the same?

Sensitivity wise I put the Xtreme on par with my NRX+ 893/873, but more of a pressure bite feeling. It’s not as electric as an nrx but the balance is substantially better.

My elites/x are easily GLX level of sensitivity and the 7m casting and 7mlf spinning are utter standouts in the line. The fit and finish are spot perfect as well which is a nice touch.

My Xtreme starts with an 11g finesse jig, then moves to bullet weighted senkos, and has the right tip and power to handle chatters/spinners in that 3/8-1/2 range.

One dynamic others have said but I’ve not experienced is the Xtremes are “slower” in action. Comparing the 7’1mhxf in the x line with my Xtreme the bend test and flex points were the same. When I had a fish on they fought the same. The difference is the Xtreme is more sensitive and much much better balanced.

I own/have owned several SC Legend Xtremes.  Personally I can't tell the difference in sensitivity btwn it and a NRX+.  I know others will disagree with me but that's just my experience.  I also prefer the build quality of the SC over the Loomis as I'm not a fan of the recoil guides.

My only gripe with these rods was the handle.  I didn't like the kind of hour glass shape and the overall feel but otherwise it is a really nice rod.

I agree with @FishTank.  Another minor gripe was the aluminum cap on the bottom of the grip.  When holding the rod vertically it wanted to slide all over the place.  Oher than that I think they are awesome.

I've got several of the older blueish ones.  Great rods.  I really like them.  I've got the same one you do and I use it mostly for T rigs and jigs.  You could use it for alot of other presentations too but I dont.
