Berkley Nessie

Featured Replies

I prefer the Grow Design bait they knocked off. I can say that because I have both. It's not a bad bait, especially for the price. The OG glides a little more distance. That's important to me because I like to glide it up under docks.

Very sad to see what the industry has become......all these small companies, many JDM invent these awesome baits only for big corporate conglomerates like Pure Fishing, or Rapala to rip them off, and to throw salt in the wounds, rig the voting at ICast so that the Nessie won best "NEW" bait of show.   What a joke.

If anglers keep rewarding Pure Fishing/Rapala by buying blatant copies, innovation will continue to take a nose dive.

Companies can do this a right way.....just look at what SPRO did with the Chad Shad, they got together with Kevin from KGB and they created a mass production version of the resin Chad Shad.

Look at what Missile Baits did when they wanted a Spunk Shad, they contacted Hog Farmer and licensed the bait from them.

A very good glide bait for very few dollars. I have not caught anything on mine YET but I am impressed with its performance in the water.

BTW I have the 7" and I'm considering the 9" for pike

and musky.

I have a buddy who is a single dad and he fishes when he can and he smokes giants on the nessie.  He loves em.  I haven't bought any yet but they are intriguing.

I like that Berkley makes cool expensive stuff available for less money and I feel for the small businesses that can't scale their models to provide consumers with competitive prices.  It's really not easy to pick sides for me.

There seems to be no limit to what Berkley will copy. I know this is nothing new to the industry as a whole but it's gone too far with these guys. For me personally,  as of this year, from line to lures, I will no longer purchase anything from Pure Fishing.  Even though this will hold me back from fishing a few baits I really like, I think I have seen enough. I would rather support companies that create the originals. Besides there are so many good baits out there, I will never be able to fish them all.
