My Micro SD with my second day of my Bassmaster Kayak Classic footage isn't working. It worked a few days ago when I initially viewed the footage, but now when I try to use it, it says it needs formatted. I don't want to do that and lose the videos. I tried using a Recova program and wasn't able to pull any files with it. I tried switching cards, computers, leaving the card in the camera, no dice on any of it (GoPro says "error" when I put the card in now).

 

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. 

I've used photorec to recover image files from corrupt SD cards. That, or something similar should do it. Be warned, even if you formatted before your most recent capture, any older files that weren't overwritten by new data may show up. It's a little creepy, but highlights the fact that formatting doesn't  completely erase the old data and merely prepares the device for new data. 

@J Francho I will check that out. Does it have to be formatted first for that program to work or does it work without being formatted? 

No, don't format. Those recovery programs will sometimes even read a disk that can't be mounted as drive. I've read off a hard drive that spun but was totally dead to the OS.

I used this a couple of times to recover data off a "busted" card.

My best friend owns an IT business, I accidentally deleted some files I didn't want to and called him up because I wanted a file recovery program that didn't cost me a bunch of money, all the free ones ultimately wanted payment.

 

He sent me a program that worked awesome, but now I can't delete files from memory cards on my laptop.....ahhhhhh.   Now he's got to fix that.   

 

Wish I could help, but between me deleting files on accident, and having an entire card go corrupt, it's a real pita sometimes dealing with gopros.
