T-wing reel and long leaders

Featured Replies

I fish clear water, normally 10 or more feet of clarity so I tie long fluoro leaders on my casting setups. I was thinking about get a daiwa tatula ct, but I’m wondering if the t-wing system would catch my leader knot ( I tie a FG). Should I not get the daiwa ( or get a fuego)? Should I tie shorter leaders? Or will the t-wing be fine?

T-Wing will handle the knot better than a standard round or oval aperture.

Depending on your line's diameter, it might catch sometimes when reeling it in, but not to a dead stop especially with a FG. Might as well get a Fuego if you're concerned as it's the same reel as the CT other than the line guide.

And it’s cheaper too. But how much casting distance would I gain from the t-wing?

IMO, the T-wing's only really a factor when using plastic lines greater than typical 17lb test. With braid, no meaningful difference.

My experience replacing a Fuego CT with a Tatula CT on the same rod loading the same line....maybe 5%...so 7'-8' more on a 50 yard cast (which is a long cast in my book).

@August For the future, fg knots are the only way to deal with the TWS on diawa and make it a viable option.  Like @PhishLI it can sometimes catch while reeling it in, but I've only found that to happen on my tat 200 w/ 65lb pp to 20lb mono.  The TWS w/lighter braids and leaders has yet to hiccup for me.  The tat300 with the same line combo as the 200 is as smooth as the lighter setups.  With what you're looking at buying, I think the CT is a great choice.
