Action of lure question(s)

Featured Replies

So I’m sitting here waiting on the FedEx man to show up with some of my birthday presents…s-waver 200, SPRO Chad Shad and MB Vitalion.

I really want to see what the action is like prior to fishing them. I have a creek next to my house that has a deep pocket in it. So, I want to go there.

This may be a stupid question, but would the action be different on a different rod/setup than the one I intend to throw them on?  For example, I intend to thrown them (prob minus the MB) on my 7’-10” Mojo Bass Heavy. But, it’s easier to carry my 7’ Medium down there?

A lot of the action depends on the thickness and the type of line.

Yes the action will be different based on the line type, size......the reel size, and retrieve, and lastly the rod length, and action.

It probably won’t differ too much if you’re going lighter line/rod. Too much heavier tends to dampen the action on glides.

Line size, line type and speed of retrieve will make a difference.   I can’t imagine how the lure would know what type of rod and reel you’re using.  You could always put some tape over the lure’s eyes just to make sure it’s a blind test.  😆

Maybe I could rework a pair of horse blinders?

I just didn’t know if strength and action of the rod would matter.

If you're shaking or somehow using the rod to impart a desired action on the lure then the rod might make a difference.  If you just testing the lure to get a sense of it's natural action and running depth at a certain speed then I wouldn't worry about the rod.
