Need A New Depth Finder

Featured Replies

  • Super User

I went fishing yesterday and my depth finder on the console would not work. I am looking at getting a Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 53cv. All I need is one with a 5" screen. Does anyone know anything about this unit? Are there any other recommendations? I do like having the down imaging and GPS. I don't want anything with FFS on it.

As a side note I caught two LMB on a Baby Brush Hog and my wife caught one on a U Tale worm.

@WRB my old unit is a Garmin ECHOmap 50DV. It is about 15 years old. The lighting in it would not work. The one I am looking to buy is $399.oo. I found it for that price at two places.

@TnRiver46 the power cables are okay. I could faintly see the info come up when you turn it on but the lighting wouldn't work to light it up so you could see it like it is supposed to.

$400 buy It! Make sure it comes complete with TD, cords and mtg bracket.

weak LCD could simple to complex to fix.

15 years it had lived a good life.

I found the book on my old fish finder. It told me that one of the buttons controlled the lighting. I hooked it up and now it works again. After more research I found the one I was thinking about getting has to go on the trolling motor instead of the console. I may still replace it since it has some programs that don't work like they should. I am looking at a Hummin Bird Helix 5. Don't know much about how good they are so I will see what I can find out. My brain actually did work for a change. It doesn't happen very often but it does happen.
