Bacarrac info/help

Featured Replies

Fishing Bacarrac in Dec for 7 days out of my own boat - so no guide. Hoping to talk with someone familiar with the lake to get an understanding of the things; safely navigating, areas of the lake to focus on, whether there is any mapping of the lake contours available, patterns etc. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone is able to help me directly or get me in touch with a person that could help. Thanks!

Not sure that is a place I’d fly solo for safety reasons.

Not sure that is a place I would drive to either, Sinaloa is loaded with "Cartel" just waiting for your truck and I am sure they would love your boat..

I wouldn't hesitate to take a charter flight right to a Baccarac lodge but there is absolutely no way I'd drive there in my own truck pulling my own boat across Mexico.

You will fly into Mazatlan, and a carrier will meet you there for the 1.5 hour drive to Baccarac lodge. I have done it but the drive was still sketchy.

I can't help you with information on Bacarac, because I have not had the opportunity to fish there.  I can give you lots of information on fishing many other lakes in Mexico on your own.  I have driven all over the country, and have never had any problems.  Cartel members love big cities, wild night life, fancy sport cars, and yachts.  They don't care about bass fisherman with pick ups and bass boats.

I know people that have towed expensive center console boats from the boarder to PV and have never heard of anyone ever having any problems.  Can something bad happen? Yes it is possible, but your kid could also be a victim of a school shooting in the states, but would you be scared to send your kid to school?

Violence makes for sensational news in any country, but that doesn't mean there is really danger around every corner.  It is easy to find trouble if you want to in Mexico, but by using some common sense you can travel, and fish for giant bass in un crowded lakes safely.

If you ever want someone to show you around lakes in the states of Nayarit, or Jalisco, I would be glad to show you everything I know, and would be happy to buy the gas and lunch.

There's an airstrip there that will take a prop plane if you don't want to do that drive.

We stay at Lake Baccarac Lodge.

They provide the guides and yes they do pick you up at the airport if you fly commercial air.

There is also a private air option where you are flown directly fm the US to the air strip close to the lodge. (still have to clear customs in Mexico first though)  We use that although it's more $$$.

We use own own gear - you can rent rods at the lodge if you want

The lake is a deep mountain lake made when they flooded several towns.  25 miles long and five miles wide and is 30,000 acres at full pool.   There's NO Mapping available for it other than paper maps which are more like a reference than something I would ever consider using for actual navigation.  Water levels fluctuate WILDLY through the season and fall over 50-60 feet just about every year. It's a ROCK LAKE I say again IT'S A ROCK lake - no soft bottom anywhere.  Depths can and do go from 100 ft to 1 foot in a 10 feet  span and without any warning.  Only cover is lure eating, bait grapping trees -

that cut heavy FC like a hot knife through butter.  Fish use them but it's a sketchy deal getting them out of there. Water has a green tint so visibility is usually 1 foot or less.

Local guides know the lake well.  I would NEVER consider operating my rig there without someone on board who knew the lake - you will hit something - only a matter of time.

And there's No repair shop in the Mexico Mountains.

Either way, the big bass fishing's usually pretty good.
