Talk me out of a Steez

Featured Replies

I have 2 Steez spinning rods (761 first and second edition) and they are the finest rods I have ever used.  Very light, crisp, and incredibly sensitive.  They are an absolute joy to fish with.  The only reason I would not buy a Steez is because of their breakage policy.  Loomis's Expiditor policy allows you to replace the rod with a fee that is relatively reasonable.  I have broken too many rods over the years (none in the last several) and I am very fearful of breaking one of my Steez rods and being out $500+ dollars.

  • Steez came in the other day and she is a beaut. I saw I accidentally said I got the “CT” version in an earlier post. I actually picked up the new “SV” model.   I love the paint job on it, bu

Get the Steez. I have two A’s and love them! If I didn’t just buy a Zillion, I’d get another one.

JDM Zillion done.  Has your fiancé met the Bait Monkey Yet?  Might be a good time to make the introduction.

This is kind of the whole point, why buy an aluminum-frame A2 that's a Zillion with an extra BB and metal clutch bar.

The magnesium frame on Steez SVTW makes it One Ounce (30 g) lighter.

Most times, I can't notice the difference, but it's noteworthy on rods lighter than 100 g.

Almost seems like the 24 steez sv tw is just a magnesium zillion sv tw. I’m probably wrong though.

Anything above a zillion sv tw is just a zillion sv tw with a different name.  :)

extra BB on LW, and a metal clutch bar in place of plastic.

An ounce lighter, because it's magnesium.

No accident I buy Zillion and Steez (Silver Wolf, SLPW Zillion) - I can move the same spools around between them all.

Does the steez a2 have the extra BB on the LW and the metal clutch bar as well?

How can I tell from that if the clutch bar is metal or not?

I have both the Steez and Zillion. I can't see any reason to spend the extra money on the Steez.

But it’s so pretty. 😍

I agree..   the steez is one of those reels that if you question if you should get it then the answer is get it because it won’t leave your thoughts.  Once you get it you’ll think “hmmm… maybe the zillion was more than enough”

When I bought my Steez, it was simply the Daiwa I wanted that was available in JDM.

I didn't buy it for magnesium frame, double LW bearings and metal thumb bar, but because it would take the spools I wanted to fish.

I wouldn't even consider a Daiwa for the previous 25 years.  In 1984, Daiwa wouldn't support parts for my 7-y-o Millionare, and burned a bridge for me.  I had already bought a Lew's for my dad.  Lew's then was the paradigm ultimate-casting reel promoted and supported by all the local pro shops (before BPS and outlet malls franchised around the country), and was still able to get parts for these original BB reels from Roy's Bait & Tackle in Corpus into the last decade.

After the 2018 advent of X-braid, and trying it on finesse spinning tackle, I also wanted to try it on BFS, and that's why I bought my Steez.

When '21 Zillion became available in JDM, I bought mine the same week it was introduced.

BR forum has changed in a positive way over the same time period - then, Zillion was derided here as elitist tackle.  Now, it has become the norm.  Though I hardly think owning a Steez is the new elitist.

Do not hear all the comments here about how amazing the Zillion is. It is amazing but don't let that stop you from buying what you really want. Just get the Steez.

From my experience. I would buy a second option, be happy with it for a little while but the idea of what I really wanted will never go away... ending on me buying both!

So no, you're are not saving any money..

Go for it!
