Big spool with big diameter more gooder for more distance.  The larger perimeter of a full spool or larger spool = more dispensed line per spool rotation than an undefiled or smaller diameter spool.

Not at all. Only saying to be sure that overall the spool is filled to just below the rim bevel. I run 67yds or 200’ (2 long casts) of mainline in most cases

For BFS shallow spools with no holes in the spool, take the spool out of reel, tie an arbor knot with a big loop around the spool, tighten knot, twist spool and reloop line around the spool a few times. If that sounds confusing (it does to me, and I’ve done it a bunch of times!) check out this video. The new JDM Kast King bfs reel spool has no holes so this worked great for that reel.

Out of curiosity, how do you measure out 67 yards worth of line? 

Easy - Measure 68 and then cut one yard off.

Line counter or fill the spool then walk off the extra.

Can’t believe I didn’t even think of using a line counter to measure it. Here I am trying to figure out complex algorithms and mathematical equations to measure my line backing. 😂

 

I need to remember: keep it simple stupid!

Was trying to research for one.  Hard to find information, and what I did find seemed to indicate they aren't accurate, often don't last very long, and lean towards being a waste of money.

 

What line counter do you suggest I try?

I think the one I have is an old Berkley.  Haven't used it in years though, since I don't use backer anymore.
