August Hi-Zen
Hello, I am having trouble between two fishing reels, the 13 fishing concept TX2 and the Concept C2. Keep in mind that I am living in California and I want a reel to use in both saltwater and freshwater. I heard that both of these are corrosion safe as long as I take care of them. Price is not an isssue, but I only want one reel for both water types, not a freshwater and saltwater reel. I like to fish but I don’t need multiple reels. Which do yall think is better and why. Thanks!
lettuceBEEcereal
Between the two I'd go with their salt reel, drag clicker and every bearing is corrosion resistant. I have a C2 I use for jigs and it's a nice reel but it will probably never see an ocean.
August Hi-Zen
I can use a saltwater reel in freshwater right, I can’t see why not?
Delaware Valley Tackle
Ya the only thing that makes a saltwater reel is corrosion resistant materials and in some cases water intrusion prevention
Super User bulldog1935 Posted September 13 Super User Share Posted September 13 Most reels made today are salt-safe (consider most reels in Japan shore-fish the salt most often). Reels that aren't salt-safe include many magnesium-frame reels. Just takes a little TLC - light rinsing after each trip, attention to spool bearings. My oldest Super Duty G has been exclusively in the salt for 7 years. The only extra attention it has needed was replacing the (cathodically coated) brake magnets at the onset of corrosion after 4 years. (upgrading to stronger Nd magnets, had to remove 2 to keep brake operation on the dial cam)
August Hi-Zen
The 13 fishing concept C2 claims to be noncorrosive but I’ve heard people say not to use them in saltwater. What do you think?
Super User bulldog1935 Posted September 14 Super User Share Posted September 14 what I think is $200 is too d**n close to a JDM Zillion to spend it on a Concept C2.

GetFishorDieTryin
I havent gotten to hold either one in hand, but I hear theyre small reels. Both are designed to tolerate SW as that's the best you can hope for, even my VS's aren't SW safe, they will develop issues after enough hard use without proper care, its just a matter of time. Personally I would go with the TX. There isnt much of a weight difference and you get a brass main gear which I really prefer over AL for a couple reasons. The Concept C is a nice reel, but I've heard the white finish can really take a beating over time and show stains. Check out Amazon and Ebay, you can usually get either of them at a steep discount. Super User NorthernBasser Posted September 14 Super User Share Posted September 14 I have the first Concept C and it's a great reel. I've had it for about 6-7 years now and it's still going strong. The pearl white finish has held up well. Not sure what to expect from the C2, but I've heard a lot of positive things. I just ordered one from Fish-Field yesterday. They have it 40% off right now. For $138 I figured I'd check it out.
