looking at getting a jig rod suggestions?

Featured Replies

I am on the hunt for a good rod under $200 (ahem I mean other than Loomis) this rod will be used mostly for 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs in deeper water with occasional heavy cover....right now I am using my Helium LTA 6'6 md/heavy and want something that isn't gonna load up as fast and is 7' or 7'6 that being said is there a big difference between the telescopic poles and a one piece?

I am leaning on a Powell 765 MH or possibly an All Star Big Boy TAS 908BB or TAS 907FSX and then I was also thinking a Daiwa L&T TL-76T ah!! decisions.... this all wouldn't be so tough if the local tackle stores carried these rods and I could actually feel them....I am counting on you more experienced guys to help me out  :o

the rod will be outfitted with a low profile reel

thanks RW I've heard about these rods but never felt one.....I have 3 other MH rods all of which are 6'6 and are great all around rods...  my fear is that the tip is gonna be too spongey for 1/2 oz jigs/worms.  I will be fishing in water up to 40' so I need some good feeling without too much load especially for winter fishing where bites feel like nibbles....haven't owned a 7' MH so pardon the skepticism

You might go to the Heavy power Avid, but a MUCH BETTER choice would be to spend a few more bucks and get:

THE ULTIMATE FISHING MACHINE

G.Loomis IMX MBR844C.

I agree with Roadwarrior if you can spend a few more bucks get the IMX MBR844C.  I bought it early last year and absolutely just love it.

MUCH BETTER hmmm......looks like I'll be packing a lunch this month  :o

I always told myself I needed a nice fiberglass boat before I dive back into the Loomis category(previous steelhead/salmon fisherman here)  looks like some instant "G"ratification is in order  ;D

thanks guys

If want a rod that is very, very close to loomis in quality for under $200, you might want to take a look at the Fenwick Techna AV's.  Very light, sensitive, and good quality.

THE ULTIMATE FISHING MACHINE

G.Loomis IMX MBR844C.

Fatfishfarmer on ebay should have one less then 200 possibly

BTW thats what I would get for that price range.

I really like the 6'10" All Star Pitchin' Rod for jig fishing. It is a

Heavy power rod.

Go with a Falcon Lowrider Eakins Jig Special.  It is 6' 10" med'hvy.  I own one and it is awesome.  It retails for 100 bucks.  They also make it in their Cara series.  The Cara is a little higher grade graphite and comes with a lifetime warranty.  Either way you wont be dissapointed.

Just picked up a St Croix Avid 7'3" mh for $160.00. It is a telescopic rod and dose not seem to have lost any feel. It is a great rod for pitching or light flipping.

i use a avid 7ft med hev fast ,,,, and love it IMO that rod was made for jigs ..

This is the Jig rod I use.  I use it for everything from skipping docks with a 3/8oz arky to dredging 30+ feet with a 1oz football.

Rogue MBH705C  Retails for $186.00

I use 2; IMX MBR 844 and Airrus Ultra XL 7.0 MH.

I love those Rogue too, my frog rod has a Rogue 706 black....sweet
