ABU is overpriced Posted January 10 Posted January 10 These things are unacceptable for any rod that is worth over $70 to me, but even if everything was flawless, what is up with the GLX, NRX and the NRX+ looking ghetto as hell? How is it that from generation to generation, its going from ghetto looks to ghetto looks? If a $35 rod from Aliexpress can look like a $350 rod, i don't want to hear anybody telling me that a $500+ can't or shouldn't look sweet. Loomis rods straight up looking like they're from 1985-1997 to me. Never understood what's their deal about. 1 1 1 Quote

Why is that? Because when you get a poor day on the water, its much better to be using quality than some googan squad trash. Loomis has zero excuse for making such ugly rods. Unless of course they're competing with Ugly Stick, and we are simply not aware of it. Quote

I believe it, i have heard multiple in real life (mostly walleye fisherman). Their reasoning is "i like their simple looks". But i'd bet you anything that if they saw a rod from Graphiteleader, Studio Composite, or the non "flashy" rods from megabass like the P5 line, they'd be all over them, and would prefer them over Loomis's rods. I get the "simple looks", i love how my Studio Composite Transword rod looks like, its very clean, and has zero flash to it, but everything is perfect, and there's nothing that you see on the rod that you'd wish to be done in a cleaner way. I also don't really understand why these rods weren't cosmetically improved ever since Shimano acquired them. To think that good looking rods don't attrack customers is very foolish. A good example is the Zodias line. Complete garbage rods in my opinion (mainly because of the blank sensitivity and balance), but a very popular line of rods from shimano since they came out a decade ago. 1 Quote
Rockhopper Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I'm in the "simple looks" camp myself. I like my gear non bling and utilitarian looking. Matte blacks. Clean. Simple. No stupid graphics, goddy colors, or polished bling metal. That's not for me and never will be. 3 1 Quote

I just got a new NRX+ in yesterday direct from Loomis and it’s ever so slightly oversized as well. The butt however, looks user induced as if force was placed on the butt end vertically almost pushing the blank through the cork end piece. Not saying you did this. If I’m throwing that kind of coin on something, I’m ordering direct. Your rod could’ve been sitting out on a sales floor, been purchased, returned, and put back out on the floor. Or since you bought it around Black Friday, which leads me to think you got it discounted, could’ve been a sales sample. I would just go back to the distributor you bought from, with your receipt, and return or swap it for a better example. If they have none, get a refund and order direct from Loomis. Quote

I’ve been a Gary Loomis rod user since 95, I like a dark stick with black wraps.. never have fished a Megabass rod because I’d never buy one. That’s actually what I’d call a pimp rod 🤣that’s what they look like to me anyhow.. OP: seems you picked this defective rod out in person and while Loomis CS didn’t sound helpful in a resolution you should have started at the retailer first, did you register the rod with Loomis? Do you have a screen shot of the email from Loomis? 1 Quote

Rockhopper Posted January 10 Posted January 10 To each their own. I hate blingtanium. Especially on cars, though, I do own one red car with a lot of polished stainless. I've been that way my whole life. 1 Quote
