1970-1980 fishing gear

Featured Replies

My father recently passed away and I have a lot of bass fishing gear. Rods, reels, lures excetra that I need to sell. Can anyone tell me what to do or know anyone who could come look at them so I know what's trash and what's worth something.I just want to help my mom clean out the garage.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Start looking at eBay, Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. for an idea of what the stuff is worth. Terminal tackle like weights, swivels and the like have next to no value. Old lures and reels will probably be the valuable stuff. Most rods of that era are usually not worth much, but it's worth a search anyway to be sure. Once you gather an idea of the total value you can try to sell it online as a lot or separately.

I'd like to see some pics of what you have. I just got into collecting old lures. I'm old enough that some of my lures are old. LOL.

Welcome to BR condolences for your loss.

I am sure members will be glad to help sell your dads tackle however we need to know what you have and be able to contact you via PM.

Posting photos is good method to determine what lures you have. A group photo works OK. Rods and reels need to be identified by make and model, photos help.

If you want someone to come by suggest arranging that by PM.

So sorry for your loss. Perhaps PM Glenn and maybe he could make some exceptions on trying to sell some gear here on the flee market.

Fishing gear gets bought at yard or garage sales, maybe you can host a couple?

A lot of high schools have fishing clubs you could donate to as well. I know there’s no profit in that but it does go to a worthy cause.

Just suggestions. Good luck :)

What state and locale do you live in.  Possibly this forum has experienced members living near you who may be happy to take a look.

I was asked to provide city state for the fishing rods and reels and lures. Nashville TN is home. I'll add pictures as soon as the snow let's me out of my driveway and I can get them taken. Thank you all for the suggestions

I bet some forum members are your neighbors.

Sorry for your loss.

Chances are there are some gems in that lot. Reels and lures that are no longer in production should be the easiest to sell. Once you sell off the good stuff, put the all the rest up on FB Marketplace as a lot. Deal with cash only if and when you go that route.

Other than comparing to online sales, you’re going to get a fair evaluation here.  Members here are not out to mislead.  Lots of pics on the Flea Market page will get you fair offers or advice on value.  Sorry for your loss.

I would highly suggest checking with local tackle shops not franchise but mom and pop shops. They may be able to get you inline with an appraiser. You can also check YouTube, there are channels dedicated to old gear. As others have said if you post on here we might be able to help. The more details of the gear the better we can help. Facebook also has groups dedicated to old/antique gear. You can go to local swap meets and talk to vendors they should be able to help you in the right direction. Whatever you do don’t let it go for nothing until you get it looked at by someone who knows. Older/antique gear absolutely has a market and can bring a pretty penny.
