I've always been a night owl.

Which makes way early still quite dark reveille extra special.  Just me and whatever goes bump in the night.

Doing it in the canoe was always a little extra intense.

But we be riding in style in the Pro-V Bass this trip on Another pretty morning.

Love to say I'll be dragging jigs all day but I think we both know I'd be lying through my teeth.

Let's get this topwater bite off to a righteous start with a couple of mutant brown bass.

A-Rig could make it's first appearance of the summer as well.

Either way, here we go !

I don’t often get ‘surprised’ by much. However, this one certainly falls directly into that category. First, a brief backstory. For the past, I guess, couple of years anyway, I have been on the lookou

Sliding out on to Lake Menderchuck again tomorrow morning.

Still might be a bit too soon to expect plus sized brown bass to have moved in shallow,

but I won't know unless I go.

Love to be there when they do.

Plan is to lock an A-Rig in my hands and cast both arms off before I leave.

Does the a-rig bite start to heat up out there this time of year? Ive been meaning to jerry rig a 4 dummy, one hook “Minnesota rig” and test that out. We’ll see.

Depending on the season sometime in August it heats up ~ ~

Hopefully your blue suede shoes bring you some brown bass luck today.

Some unstable weather for today is keeping me on the bank.

But there's a 3 day stretch after the fronts move through tonight

that is looking pretty Good.

My spidy senses are getting especially tingly

as the calendar moves to the middle, thru August and into early September.

I've had a few very memorable morning on Lake Menderchuck during these times:

including a Personal Best Brown bass.

I would not be opposed to duplicating any of this action.

Prepping the rig & tackle now . . .

The anticipation in the air as I hitch up the Pro-V Bass boat this morning is palpable.

Cool and calm to start but I'm expecting a mid morning NW breeze.  Sounds like bites.  Be nice to break in my new net with something big & brown.

Here We go !

In the north woods, seeing the green ferns start to turn yellow is one of my favorite 'markers' or 'indicators' that the local big brown bass bite is about to go down. This usually occurs during the third week of August.
The concept is similar in meaning to the cottonwood seeds that fly around in April and May.
Well now, will you look at that.

The sun filters through the canopy, casting a warm glow on the forest floor, the night air has been cool & crisp and I can't help but feel the excitement building. It's time to gather my gear and head to the water; the bass are waiting, and I can almost hear the splash of their top water strikes. Plan on putting this to the test in a couple of days.

Plan on making the Pro-V Bass operational tomorrow morning.

So as not to jinx myself, not that I am the least bit superstitious or anything,

I will make no predictions or announce any expectations whatsoever.

I'm just going to drive around Lake Menderchuck, and I might stop to make a few casts now & then.

That is all.

Not that I’m superstitious either but maybe try keeping the name of the lake out of your posts too. We know what Lake Menderchuck is capable of producing so if you don’t say you’re going there….

Just a thought. 😁

What did you do to the poor Lund?

What did it ever do to you to deserve it?

Stepping out into this super clear, calm and seasonably cool morrning to rig the boat & trailer to my truck, immediately brings on flashbacks of teenage, skinny as a rail A-Jay riding his bike to the lake.  Those pre dawn 8 mile  peddle feasts through the ghosted city streets were so good.  Admittedly, at this point. The GMC is a bit more comfortable, especially on the way home.

Either way, it's another Lake Menderchuck morning and so far this August, I sill haven't found what I'm looking for.

The weather and a few more pressing matters will sadly keep me off the water early this week.

However, there appears to be a potential window of opportunity on Wednesday morning.

This one could potentially include a stiff wind from the west-southwest, which I absolutely adore.

Putting the wheels in motion now to make the most of that.

Plan on being on Lake Menderchuck at first light tomorrow.

Air temps here have cooled quite a bit, and it's been a refreshing change.

The forecast indicates this trip will be pre-frontal.

I might even be fishing the 'front' before the day is over.

If the clouds, wind, and coolness come on like I'm expecting, I'll be chunking & winding something.

Either way, I'm rigged & ready for whatever comes my way.

I like Brown Bass.

Up and Atom and we are starting this morning out at 41 degrees.

Let the layering of clothing begin.

Which I always end up peeling off one

at a time as the day warms up.

Here we go . . . .

Fishing the north woods in August can be different than some other places.

A little cool this morning.

I don’t know if the lows He and I are experiencing are unseasonable but they are very welcomed.
