New Minn Kota Terrova Kayak Motor

Featured Replies

Well, I'm done. First it was the Motor Guide Kayak Motor. That really sold me. A Kayak Motor with Spot Lock. But, I'm not a Motor Guide guy. Then they stopped making that trolling motor. Well, Minn Kota is now taking a swing. And this here, this is the one for me. I have been going back and forth on either a fish finder or a motor on my PA14. I'm pulling the trigger on this motor before Minn Kota changes their mind...😅

There are a lot of great features with this new motor. There are also a couple of things I noticed:

1. It comes with their Weedless Wedge prop. It does work well in weeds, but it provides lower speeds than the standard prop.

2. It weighs 41 pounds. That’s a lot of weight on the nose. A lot of kayaks may have trouble handling that.

There are a lot of intriguing options out there with new kayaks and motors. I’m tempted, but I think I will stick with my AP 120.

The weedless wedge on the terrova is a bigger total prop than the one for the AP.  And it’s 55# thrust.  I think it will be much of a wash speed wise.  I said it in another thread, but this is basically a 55# terrova with a cut down shaft. And the terrovas are great motors.

I bought the same trolling motor for my Bonafide PWR a couple weeks ago.  I have it mounted to the kayak, but haven't used it yet (still hooking up the electric).  I initially thought about the 40+ pound weight, but with the kayak being able to easily carry 500 pounds, I think everything would handle fine.  Guess time will tell once I get it out on the water.

Pictures, pictures pictures!

Not sure who that was directed towards, but ill entertain. I was able to get the rest of the items needed to complete my trolling motor and fish finder install, and all should be here this week sometime. Ill post some pictures once things are in place.
