New normal Spring day in Maine

Featured Replies

Hi all,

When we went to bed last night it was snowing out, ground was white. Got woken up this morning at 5:30 A.M. with the crashing noise of a thunder storm. Poring rain all morning, the ground is again bare. By mid afternoon rain had stopped and outside temps are pushing sixty.

There was a time when such weather swings would be commented on as rare and odd. Not so much any more. This just seems to be the new normal around here. Anyone else seeing these weather swings often enough to be called the new normal? It sure plays heck trying to plan fishing trips around them.

We’ve had thunder and lightning in the snow down here as long as I can remember, 40-50 degree temp swings in a day or two not uncommon

the Appalachian mtns are pretty wild, been around for 480 million years. They’ve seen some things

the normal is to expect the unexpected,  new or old

JB, I live two miles from the coast, which moderates our temps, meaning everyday is pretty much like yesterday and tomorrow. Are you inland?

I'm around six miles from the coast and around three miles from the Piscataqua river. Here's a shot of the weather forecast for my area for the next few days.

7-Day Forecast 43.16N 70.78W

I wouldn't call six miles from the coast inland. I once read that within 15 miles of the coast, you'll get that moderating maritime effect. I share your frustration with having to wait and wait and wait to fish.

Rain has been our nemesis here in Western NC since sept. Helene really put a hurting on us as I live just above Chimney Rock NC(If you look it up you will be blown away by the devastation we suffered here) We have had two straight weeks of rain but with all the wildfires it's a necessary evil right now. I just wish I could get one sunny day so I can get my boat ready for tournament season as my first one is Apr. 17th.

It’s bright and sunny on this side of the mtn today

Wild weather/temp swings have always been the norm for March and April here in OH.
