844 vs 904 MBR

Featured Replies

I've heard the 844 recommended for many things including football jigs, spinner baits, top water baits, and medium size grass jigs. I haven't heard very much about the 904 for anything except bladed jigs from @softwateronly if i'm remembering right. How do they fish compared to each other? In my mind the extra 6" would be an advantage in casting distance for football jigs and walking baits.

I'd like to throw bladed jigs as well as the other 4 things I mentioned and I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons. I'm thinking about the IMX pro line but I might consider the GLX line if there is a big jump up in quality.

I love my nrx plus 904c...i use it strictly for 4.8 Keitech swing fat impacts... It's the most sensitive rod in my hands out of all the rods I own... I feel every little tick and bite...

I have the older versions of the 844C IMX and 844C GLX and I have the NRX+ 904C. I use the 844C IMX for topwater and the GLX for everything except cranks and jerkbaits.  The 904C is my primary football jig rod. I have used it for other stuff like topwater buzzbaits and big spinnerbaits but for me, it excels at football jigs.

I recently tested the NRX+ and the Conquest 904c.

To me they are completely different rods.

The NRX+ is a more powerful rod with a more powerful tip that is more medium fast. The Conquest's tip was super light in comparison. It honestly reminded me more of the tip of the NRX 893c. Casting anything like a 1/2oz + lure felt a bit weird on the conquest. Not necessarily overpowered but too much bend in the tip for my liking.

.I would suggest the NRX+ version for most use cases.

I have the MBR 903C in the IMX Pro version and I love the extra length. You can really make long casts with it.

I wouldn't hesitate to get the 904.

At this point I’m not ready to spend as much as the NRX+.

I know it’s ment to be multi purpose but what are your favorite things to throw on the Medium heavy version?

I throw a lot of crank baits, spinner baits and Mepps #5 Aglia and Black fury lures on it. Even caught my first muskie from shore on it (was fishing a river and he smashed my Mepps #5 Black Fury)
