Daiichi Seiko Knot Assist Tool 2.0

Featured Replies

I've read many posts and comments here about FG knots, different ways to tie them manually, and a few about this 3-clip tool which I'm very curious about. Most of this info is from a year or more ago and thus I'm seeking an update, the latest. So, for those who ACTUALLY USE this tool to tie FG KNOTS (10-20 lb braid to 8-12lb fluoro), are you loving it, not so much, tips or advice?

I have the Daiichi Seiko Knot Assist Tool 2.0 and have struggled with it. I finally found the method below to tie the FG and found it very easy and was tying good quality knots within a couple of try's.

I’ve had one for quite a while.  I really like it.  Once I got comfortable with it the fg knot is all that I use because it is the only leader to braid knot that hasn’t failed for me.  One of my fishing buddies uses the Alberto and has break offs at the knot nearly every trip.  I have made a kit with everything I need and keep it handy so I can replace any leader that needs it when I get home.

I like the emphasis on getting ALL the wraps tight.  Which is very important, and also, which argues for NOT going with the idea that that more wraps the better the knot.  Because if you do too many wraps you won't be able to properly seat all of them.  And his early comment of the fact that the knot won't work if the braid does not make grooves in the knot is absolutely correct.  If you don't believe it, tie a good FG then carefully cut the braid away from the leader.  You will find the leader plastically deformed, grooved, from the tension of the braid.

I have one and I admittedly struggle with it. I usually do the Yucatán knot since it's easier. Nice to see a thread that isn't full of folks crapping on the tool or the use of leaders.

Jig Man, I feel that your buddy isn't tying a good Alberto.  I use very few leaders, always use the Alberto and have yet had it fail.  I tie them at home.

OP:  Have watched several videos on tying the FG Knot.  It looks like a PITA to tie.  Haven't watched any videos on the above tool.  Not a fan of using tools to tie a knot.  Have a couple different kinds that are still in their packaging.  I'd give the tool a try if I ever decide to start often using leaders.  But I'd tie them at home.  Would rather use another rod than tie such a knot while fishing.

I was very close to buying that tool, then I saw a vid where the guy tied the braid on his belt loop or shirt button instead of holding in his teeth. Was pretty easy to tie after that change.

It was the Ott Defoe video with the loop to reel technique where it finally clicked for me, super easy now. If you haven't already I highly recommend op try this method.

I'm great at the FG part of the FG knot.  where I come apart is finishing it.  I am a hot mess.

I use the Alberto and I am not having any issues.  figured a knot I have down pat, is better than a knot I fuss with.

I have the tool, tried numerous times to use it. Not my cup of tea. For larger dia braid and leader I use the Crazy  Alberto and for small dia braid and leader I use the Red Phillips knot. The RP knot is very easy to tie and fits well through the rods with micro guides.

Thanks but I'm fairly certain they're using large diameter lines in these vids which makes it much easier to tie and some acknowledge this. I tried with 15lb braid to 10 or 12 lb fluoro (name brand/high quality lines), failed miserably every time, and have zero interest in trying again hence the inquiry about the Daichi tool.

Thanks, what lb braid and fluoro are you tying with?

I am using 15# Power Pro braid with Seaguar 8, 10, and 12# fluorocarbon line for leaders.

I use the tool.  I have one in the house and one on the boat.  It's like any other technique,  you have to get used to it and with practice it becomes fast and easy.

Sorry you have trouble with 10 & 12lb lines. I use the sizes stated with no issue.
