I have ordered from JLS and no extra charges. I think this has to do with DHL but not sure why.

It’s DHL. They’re pretty shady when it comes to importing items and not considering de minimis advantages for the end customer.

Chances are your item got grouped by DHL with other similar HTS coded items during an import and the declared value of the import exceeded $800 when grouped and got to CBP for HTS coding on the BoM.

FedEx is much better about not doing this to their customers.

After asking ChatGPT a series of questions regarding tariffs, and projections over the next six months, I asked it this- "Taking all of this into consideration, is it best to buy fishing tackle direct

  • Just keep in mind this thread is about potential extra fees and costs when ordering tackle from other countries.  This is NOT a discussion about tariffs, the economy, or inflation.

I just need to say that threads like this make it extremely difficult to follow the forum guidelines but so far so good. 😆

This is what I’ve heard from someone that deals with international shipping as well. Basically DHL just lumps every package from a particular store together, then charges the customer the duty rate rather than separating them by customer and dealing with de minimis.

Anyone notice that digitaka has increased their prices on Daiwa reels? Not sure about others, but Daiwa has gone up.

Not sure on Daiwa specifically, but I know they raised prices here. I will say Digitaka started to implement a surcharge on top of the tariffs - presumably for fuel costs. Conversely, the yen is at like all time lows against the dollar so that helps offset any price increase otherwise.

Which reel specifically? I just looked at my order history on the site, and clicked through to see current prices. Quick check of the last (2) Zillions and they’re $2 cheaper today than when I purchased them months ago. I wonder if Daiwa had a price increase on specific lines? Conversion rates play a part here as well.

Same price now as it was a few months ago when I ordered 3 reels from them.
