Welcome aboard soldier!

You need to specify how much you want to spend.

HAHA thanks for the hint! well per ROD and reel like 50-60 dollars max for now.  We have always done the whole worm and bobber fishing and we dont know if we will like this type of fishing so we  dont want to break the bank if we dont like to do it...or we dont find time!  us soldiers have a thing about training all the time, i dunno why!! just kidding  thanks for the reply!!

just go to your local wal-mart or whatever in the sporting goods area and pick out a reel and rod that is not expensive but make sure that it doesnt look like it is going to break the first time u cast it. to get started in this sport u dont have to be rich or have to have the best equipment.

deek20002001,

First off would like to say WELCOME !! There are so durned many choices when you go to a sporting section (especially when you are new and don't really know what you want or need). Don't mean to try a cop-out, but it's really hard from long distance to help. With as many guys that must be stationed with you, I think that I would try to find someone interested in bass fishing and sit him down for a serious talk. I don't know know any fisherman that would turn down the chance to expond on his  ;Dwisdom ;D to a person new to the sport. Hope this helps some...

I wouldn't discout Ebay either.  Often you can pick up quality gear that has been slightly used for cheap.

Welcome! Yes, try E-bay like Redlinerobert mentioned.

Here is a simple solution:

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=63971&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=3&hvarSubCode=3&hvarTarget=browse

In your price range and easy to use. If you decide to become more involved in the sport, there are better options down the road, but this will get you started.
