Daiwa steez AGS power pitch opinions.

Featured Replies

I have the power pitch and the fmj and i love both of them but I feel like the fmj is more sensitive and also feels lighter to me. I feel like they both have the same power but the steez feels more moderate in a way. personally I use the power pitch for 1/2 and 3/4 oz jigs and use the fmj for my texas rig setup usually a 5/16 or 3/8 weight with normally a geecrack bellows stick or a owner beast hook and a bellows gill or bellows shad

Thanks! Would the fmj work for 3/8oz jigs/T-rigs?

@woolleyfooley I find the power pitch more sensitive than my DRX755.  It's number one or tied with the MC Days360 6'6MH/F in terms of sensitivity out of what I own and they're both excellent jig rods.  To me the power pitch feels best with a 7+oz reel.

@softwateronly I know it’s been a couple of months but how do the actions between the 755 and the power pitch compare?

I love the power/action of my champion extreme 745 so I’m really curious how the power pitch compares.

I would use it like that.  I only use the 2 rods so i dont have to retie.  Before I got the fmj I was using the shimano expride b 7 2 mh fast for texas rigs and for the price its not far off from the other 2.  I still use it I normally will have a creature bait tied on it.  I feel like the bmg is closer to the power pitch over the fmj.

@woolleyfooley they are more similar than not.  It feels like the extra length of the 755 means the very tip is softer than the pp.  I fish a lot of grass and that extra softness and length means the 755 loads a bit too much for my liking when working 1/2-3/4oz jigs on the bottom in the heaviest grass.  Like Catt described, I have good success when I can hang and shake the jig and ever so lightly pop if forward.  With the heavier jigs and lighter tip, the 755 give me a sense of a little less control doing that compared to the pp.  When fishing t-rigs, it's kinda the opposite because I'm at a lighter weight or a better shape to slip through, so the rods flip in terms of favorites.  In general, they both have a somewhat moderate first third that really stiffens up into a powerful backbone.  I find them both to be really fun to fish and some of my favorite production rods that I've owned/tried.  Sorry for the delay.

Thank you very much for the detailed response! That really helps me understand how the PP feels.

How would you compare the Power Pitch to the Bottom Contact 2? I’ve been using my BC for T-rigs and jigs but not too confident in it as a punching rod. Is the PP a shorter, heavier version of the BC2? I fish weedlines and docks a lot so it would be nice to have something shorter than 7’3 to do this. Was also considering the P5 FMJ but not sure how they compare

I don’t have a power pitch but I had a 7’1” H/F Tatula which follows the Daiwa formula for power and action. That is a heavy rod that you can use for heavy rod applications where the Bottoms Contact is a general purpose jig rod that can handle some cover. It also casts really well despite being much heavier in power.

If you want a flipping and punching rod for real heavy stuff they have a XH too bit the power pitch should work for most stuff.

Any suggestions for alternatives to the steez AGS power pitch? Daiwa raised the price from 550 to 670. Definitely not paying that.

NRX+ 873 CRR

I’ve used the power pitch on two trips and while I don’t own it, it felt nearly identical to my 873. Similar taper, power, and weight.

Sweet! Thank you for the recommendation!

@woolleyfooley I was looking at a cheaper power pitch also and had it narrowed down to a coupe exprides and the Zillion 7’2 H.
Heavy rods haven’t been an area where ive put a lot of money in the past so this is my highest end heavy rod. Because of this I don’t have a great reference point to compare this rod to, but I don’t have any complaints so far after about 4 months of use. I’ve used it for 3/8-3/4oz jigs, swimjigs, T-rigs, 6in line-thru swimbaits, smaller glides, mag flukes and lots of other stuff. No complaints about sensitivity. It is definitely not a pool cue of a heavy and loads fairly deep but has lots of power. It’s a greatw jig rod for me because it has a fast enough tip to work jigs through grass, plenty of power to bury a heavy wire hook at the end of a bomb cast, and loads deep enough to keep head shaking fish pinned at the side of the boat. I’m considering getting a heavy Expride pretty soon so I’m definitely interested to compare the two.

If your not interested in spending a ton, the GLX line has the same stick now.

From my experience the 873 is just such a fantastic dragging, pitching, and big buzz rod it’s hard to put down.

With some Loomis models you do need to get used to how they feel in hand. I don’t know a better way to put it, but it takes an adjustment and once it’s down you’ll never put it down.

Cool, thanks for the info. To be clear, you’re talking about the 7’2h zillion? If you do get an expride I’d love to hear how it compares!

Yep I’m talking about the Zillion. I just realize I didn’t clarify that very well.
