Daiwa steez AGS power pitch opinions.

Featured Replies

I’m considering getting a new jig/T-rig rod to replace my Dobyn’s champion extreme 745. The power pitch is a couple inches shorter but has the same lure weight rating as the 745.

I don’t have a problem with my 745, but I figured I could repurpose it with braid as a punching/frog rod and the power pitch would get the 25lb tatsu I normally use on the 745.

So, my question is, how much more sensitive is the steez AGS power pitch compared to my Dobyn’s 745? I know sensitivity is subjective, but anyone with opinions would be much appreciated!

I believe the hook up tackle did a video on that model?

I don't have the Power Pitch but I have 3 different Steez rods and I've had a variety of Champion HP rods over the years.  The Steez rods are a whole level up from the Champion HP in terms of lightness, crispness, and overall sensitivity.  They should be considering they are $200 more.  But  I love my Steez rods overall and has phased out my Dobyns rods over the last couple of years.  If you pull the trigger on the rod, I will be very surprised if you are not very happy with the Steez.

Thank you! That’s good to hear!

@woolleyfooley I find the power pitch more sensitive than my DRX755.  It's number one or tied with the MC Days360 6'6MH/F in terms of sensitivity out of what I own and they're both excellent jig rods.  To me the power pitch feels best with a 7+oz reel.

Drx is the xtasy, right? That’s good to hear. I plan on putting a steez a2 on it which weighs 6.7oz so that should work well. Thanks for the input!

Any suggestions for alternatives to the steez AGS power pitch? Daiwa raised the price from 550 to 670. Definitely not paying that.

The Tatula Elite AGS series? I've got a couple of them that I am pleased with.

Where do you see it for 670? A google search shows it’s still 550 everywhere

Nobody goes to Daiwa and wants to see street prices, good grief.

If you're looking for a jig rod/bottom contact rod, this MC Days360 66MH/F is partnered up with the power pitch for me.  They are my dedicated jig/t-rig rods; 1/4-5/8oz for the Days360 and 3/8-3/4oz for the power pitch.  They are indistinguishable in sensitivity to me.  I'm really enjoying the 6'6 length, fishing heavy weeds I feel like I'm in total control of my presentation with the tip up or down.  At $330 shipped and taxed it's also a deal compared to the new or old diawa price.

D360C-66MH is completely specialized for bottom touch. It is a rod that is equipped with all the necessary elements for bottom fishing at a high level. It is a one-of-a-kind rod for bottom touch lures. In the testing stage, we focused on the feeling of using high-density worms without a sinker, and the user can control the force, speed, and line as they wish. With Toray T1100G, R360 structure, titanium guides, and an exquisite balance setting, it has ultra-high sensitivity that clearly conveys the feeling of going over each leaf of weed and each grain of gravel. In addition, it has the power to instantly pull off a big fish that has been caught around an obstacle, and it is a rod that has been completed without compromise in pursuit of all the necessary elements for bottom fishing.

Are you saying you don’t think stores are going to have to raise prices too?

6’6 is a bit short for my taste. I like 7’ and longer. I’m not opposed to trying a shorter rod though so I’ll definitely look into it. Appreciate the info! 👍

Me too in general.  I have a lot in the 7'3-7'7, but I fell in love with the PA 6'11M+ as a worm rod that I decided to try a shorter bottom contact jig option and really happy I did.

I’ve heard rumors about them going up. Now would be the time to buy if you want one before the stores raise the price.

Wow.  This is one of the reasons I bought a couple Steez rods over the winter because of tariffs.

Everything else on Daiwa’s site is priced the same as major retailers. I’d bet within a few weeks all stores will be selling the steez AGS for $669.99. Do you have any insider info to the contrary?

Yup. Wish I had the money at the moment. On the other hand, I don’t like the idea of giving any money to Daiwa USA out of principle.

I’m not interested in the steez AGS anymore. Looking for alternatives at the moment.

Any suggestions of rods similar to a power pitch would be awesome!

My power pitch is my absolute favorite jig & Texas rig rod. I’ve fished it along the NRX 873Crr + and I prefer my power pitch. It will pitch down to 1/4 and I find it enjoyable to pitch a 3/4 ounce Texas rig into grass. It can do it all and weighs nothing. I also enjoy a tiny reel on it for flipping and pitching. Steez ct sv or alphas sv style frames (true 70 size frames) are great and the combo weighs under 10oz!

Thanks! I was planing on throwing a steez a2 on it!

How would you compare the Power Pitch to the Bottom Contact 2? I’ve been using my BC for T-rigs and jigs but not too confident in it as a punching rod. Is the PP a shorter, heavier version of the BC2? I fish weedlines and docks a lot so it would be nice to have something shorter than 7’3 to do this. Was also considering the P5 FMJ but not sure how they compare
