Daiwa Zillion issues

Featured Replies

When fishing with my JDM zillion I noticed some of the parts seemed looser than they should. After checking it out I found that the thumb bar seemed loose, to the point where I can move it maybe a 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch back and forth and up and down. Also the level wind seems like it has more play side to side than it should without spinning the handle. Wondering how much is normal and when I should be concerned. I sent this reel into @Delaware Valley Tackle for a cleaning and he said it seem like it was in good condition. Ive only used it for probably 15 hours since then.

Line guide having wobble is normal on all reels. Not even worth adding additional shims because it'll make no difference. And on average, there's more wobble on T-wing reels. No side to side play on my thumb bar, tho.

My Daiwa thumb clutches are rock-solid in both positions.

There should be freeplay in the LW rider - the gap is in the pawl riding in the worm gear, and it needs to be there.

It's not cheap, but KDW makes a metal clutch button upgrade for Zillion

Could be a couple of reasons, but my guess is that screw #56 is a bit loose. This allows the two holes in part #54 to not be well connected to the two slots on part #53. This also then allows the thumb bar to wiggle a little bit.

Its possible the thumb bar hole is loose. You should be able to take thin metal shims, wrap them around it glue it in place to tighten it up. I did something like that on an older reel since I couldn't locate the parts.
