NRX+ vs Conquest: So What's the Verdict?

Featured Replies

Is the Conquest or NRX+ more sensitive?

It’s been quite some time now since the Shimano - G.Loomis Conquest rod has been released. There was some debate when it was first released as to whether it was more sensitive than the NRX or not. From what I’ve read, the Conquest blanks are rolled in Japan and the rod’s final assembly is built in the USA while the NRX+ is fully made in the US.

Ultimately, I’m trying to find out which rod is more sensitive. I’m thinking about getting a new jig rod. For reference, I own an NRX+ 893C. It’s a great rod, and the sensitivity is very crisp. However, I want to add a rod that’s one power higher. I’m thinking about either getting a NRX+ 894C or Conquest 904C. I’m aware that the actions on these rods are different, but they are both 4 power rods. Which of these rods are more sensitive?

I know that not everyone might not have these exact models, but in general, is the NRX+ more sensitive than the Conquest or is the Conquest more sensitive?

This is unrelated to the main question at hand, but if you were primarily going to throw 1/2oz jigs, would you choose the NRX+ 894C or 873C? I know the actions of these rods are different, and I also know that rods of the same line vary in sensitivity. Between these two, which one is more sensitive?

I don't own a nrx+, but my Conquest 904 is a great stick that is not exceptional in sensitivity.  So I vote nrx.

I prefer my 873 for any baits I'm dragging along the bottom like a football jig or trig big worm... 894 is my go to 1/2 flipping jig rod... 904 is my dedicated 4.8 Keitech swing fat impact rod... I have them all in nrx plus versions... Out of all 8 nrx I currently have... 904 is the most sensitive in my hands and is my favorite model... I've never tried any conquest rods to compare to the nrx..

I have the 904C NRX+ and the 894C NRX+. I use the 904C for all kinds of stuff that is around a 1/2oz (except cranks), including football jigs. My favorite jig rod is the 894C though. Both have plenty of power but when it comes to jigs I tend to like the 904C for deep water dragging and the 894C for everything else. The 894C may feel a little more sensitive to me but it's probably the faster taper.

So for me the 904C is more versatile but for jigs 894C is my go to.

If I had the cash I would go new GLX over either because I love the black and gold classic loomis colors. they remind me of my first loomis rod back in 1998. I a bit anal when it comes to rod color lol i don't like the robins egg blue of the NRX lolol

Theres a guy on YT who compares a few models of the 2.  He says both are great rods and he actually likes the Conquest.  The difference is in weight.  The Conquest isn't a naked blank, which adds weight, but when compared to NRX the resale value is much higher because NRX will show every scuff and scrape where Conquest will not.  Basically, if you want a sensitive rod and don't care about resale NRX is what you want.
