Shimano Poison Adrena

Featured Replies

From what I’ve felt with one rod and am hearing the New Current Gen Shimano Poison Adrenas are a bit faster than the previous generation.

Similar to the Current Gen Expride B’s to the Expride previous Gen Expride A’s …

That said … does anyone have a 7”2 Heavy Adrena New Gen and Previous Gen they can speak in comparison?

I have an older generation Poison Adrena in 7'' 2 in H .  I don't have a newer Gen. one but I have held one in my hands.  The older generation PA feels more like a MH.  I can compare it to a Zodias 7'' 2 in H.  To me they are very similar in action with the first gen. Adrena a little bit stiffer.

The newer gen. Poison Adrena felt faster than the older PA, with an action more toward H.

I can only directly compare 2018 PA and Expride A's.  I agree with @Reel that the '18 PA's are more moderate than the exprides and that the old 7'2H/F is close to MH in feel, for me I'd say MH+.  The 6'11M+ and 7'2H/F were the standouts for me in the old series and if the new generation hasn't deviated too far in action, the 7'2H would be the first I'd want to put my hands on.  If you're thinking moving bait single hook or bottom contact, I can't see how you'd go wrong.

I don't think I've ever even seen one.  chiming in to learn stuff.

How sensitive are these rods compared to say the Expride b, Dobyn’s champ extreme, Okuma x series etc?

6'11M+ owner here, I don't own any new PA but I can safely say that 2018 PA are designed for JDM market and latest gen are designed towards USDM market, so yes USDM PA should be stiffer and faster by a little bit IMO. Shimano did the same thing with the Expride A compared to Expride B which I also own.

They are more sensitive than all of these rods listed… Expride B bring a close second

I wholeheartedly agree.  If you don't have it, go score a 2018 6'11M+. Same action, same sensitivity, different power.

@SouthCoast Bassindo you have any experience with the Dobyn’s champ extreme, Okuma x series and expride b? I haven’t been able to find anyone who has used them all.

The champ xtreme yes … It’s not close  the Adrena

The Adrena is 2 or 3 steps ahead Weight , balance and most importantly sensitivity

Has anyone used the new gen PA 7’4 H/Regular? Is the PA regular similar to a dobyns Fast?

I have no need for another jig/swim jig rod but there’s a good chance this will be my next rod purchase… The 7’6 H/F is definitely a possibility too.

I have the 7”4 Adrena as well …

it’s the perfect 6” Magdraft rod

Great 3/4 & 1 oz Spinnerbait Rod

If your a braid to leader guy it doubles as really good Jig Rod too

Its an Adrena so it’s super Lightweight and balances perfectly with a Bantam on it.

Without question it’s the lightest 7”4 rod I’ve ever fished. Plenty of power but extremely parabolic

Have you used an expride b? I’m curious how much more sensitive the poison adrena is than the expride b.

Does the adrena use the same blanks as the expride b?

I have the '24 7'4" heavy and love it! So light and responsive. Use it for small swimbaits but it'll work for all sorts of other applications

I'll be in the minority, but in my hands the Adrena is no more sensitive than the Zodias.

It is a better looking rod with better components and some different actions .

Yes, I have them both… and they both have their strengths.

The Adrena line is definitely a bit more sensitive than the Expride B

that said…The Expride B’s are definitely faster in the tip

The 7”4 Heavy Adrena is perfect for 6” Magdrafts and Also a killer 1 oz - 1.5 Oz punching rod

Now the 7”2 Adrena in my opinion is my favorite Rod probably of all time

it fishes more like a medium heavy +
It’s ridiculously sensitive and is about as versatile as it gets

I’m gonna strongly disagree here…

Now don’t get me wrong the zodiac is a great stick… it definitely fishes a bit faster than the poison Adrena

in terms of sensitivity… i’d put the expride B ahead of the zodias

And the Adrena is a step up from the Expride B

And I’m the majority I’m sure of it

So only a small difference between the adrena and expride b as far as sensitivity?

Don't get too obsessed with sensitivity. Any of those rods will catch the same fish.

It comes down to technique and presentation and of course finding fish.

There are plenty of guys making a living with rods I personally wouldn't use for a tomato stake but they catch 'em because they are great fisherman not great rod buyers.

In terms of sensitivity, am I the only one who thinks it's not to tell you there's a bite, any decent rod does this, but it's for feeling the bottom and cover so when it's not there you know you have a fish?

Me personally ?, no. I can tell the difference between a rock and a bass or a bass and a bluegill.

I'm positive you can, you catch loads of fish and have been doing it a long time.  Like me, you'd know gobies, coho, northern, and maybe walleye, crappie, bowfin, etc too, depending on the lure and if you were around them often.  I'm talking about the truly difficult bites, when you shake free off of a weed and don't feel it touch the bottom or when current pushes your line around a boulder in 20' fow.  These types of pick ups or bottom navigation need above average sticks, floro (leader), finger on the line and metal reels for me.  It's been a few years of good gear and been a few years since I've gut hooked a fish, I do think they're related.  The "nothing feel" is my biggest need for sensitivity because more than likely it's now a fish.

I forgot to add that this is hilarious to me; "they are great fisherman not great rod buyers".   I personally want some help from my gear.
