Mystery Tackle ( Karl’s Club)

Featured Replies

Is Karl’s Club ( shop Karl’s.com) no more? I used to be a member like 2 or 3 years ago and it was a decent place to buy tackle but when i decided to check them out recently to see what they have it appears the web site isn’t operational.

Didn’t it become Catch. Co?

Looks like it's there but I don't see anything in stock to buy other than the mystery tackle boxes:

yeah, that's all I saw. It used to be a legit online tackle shop like Omnia etc. but now there's no tackle, rods or reels...just the MTB subscription ad.

Not sure, I know they sold Catch Co. products.

MTB/CatchCo/Karls is bankrupt.  They didn't even pay back some of their debts, including their debt to Bassresource.

MTB was the first company, then they formed CatchCo as the parent, and then created Karls.  Then the CEO spun off BioSpawn and other ventures, sold his part of CatchCo and left the fishing industry, and then everything collapsed.

btw, Monster Bass has tumbled far down the same path.  If they're not bankrupt yet, they will be. They've been circling the drain for quite some time.

These are just the latest casualties from the decline of the monthly boxed tackle subscription concept.  There were several other predecessors such as FishHound that are long gone.

My wife bought me a few boxes as gifts over the years and I believe the first one I received wasn't bad but after that it wasn't worth it and I had to tell my wife to not getting me any more of them. The stuff in them was just odd to say the least.  Some of the softplastics seemed like one offs. A few of the Karl's branded ones worked pretty well but were not available to buy just by themselves.

It seemed like a good idea but just poorly executed.

Dang. Hope you can get it worked out. Do they owe for advertising? If you don’t mind me asking of course.

No way I’m going to “gamble” on what some random people are going to throw in a box.

No thanks.

PS I don’t like to gamble gamble either. Now sports betting is a different story. lol

Never understood why people just didn’t take that money and buy tackle they’d actually use

I tried for like 3 months just out of curiosity sake and I tried 3 different companies, MTB, Lucky Tackle Box and Monster Bass and you are absolutely correct in your assessment. Usually you would receive 1 name brand lure and then you'd receive about 5 baits from companies you'd never heard of and would never fish anyways. it was a gimmick that apparently has run it's course for almost every company that has tried it (6th Sense has one too but their's is a little different as you know you're going to get all quality baits as they will all be 6th sense baits but still, some you may not use for your style or fishing location). Karl's Club was a little different as they did have a nice selection of name brand tackle, I stopped when it became stupid obvious they had a deal with Googan baits as their site became predominantly Googan inspired, not to say Googan doesn't have some decent baits but they were oversaturated at Karl's Club!
