Newer St. Croix legend tournament

Featured Replies

I need a heavier rod. Medium heavy fast or maybe a heavy fast I'm not sure. Looking for something to throw frogs and half ounce jigs relatively short distances at targets.

I just got the St Croix rip and chatter it's a heavy moderate hybrid glass rod and I love having that much power to pull lures through grass. I feel like I have way more control with the heavy rod than a lighter rod that loads up like crazy and pops.

so I was looking at the St Croix legend tournament line. I want something that feels really nice in the hand.  I have enough rods for everything else I want this one to walk a frog real nice and roll casts with jigs without wearing me out.

Picture kayaking down a bank where you're making lots and lots of cast at wood and vegetation and you don't want something really heavy or super long but it's gotta have enough backbone for a frog. but soft enough tip to cast real nice and walk the frog real nice

thanks

The LTBs feel nice, but so does the Victory.  The LTB has better components and a faster blank, but its a heavier rod when compared to Victory.  The weight is balanced really well so it gives it more a 'solid' feel than heavy.  Victory is balanced well too and when you pick it up after handling LTB for a while right away its feels lighter.  I want to say its .5 or .7oz difference if memory serves.

I have both Victory and Legend Tournament rods, and both are excellent.  However, I tip the hat to the Legend Tournament.  It just fishes better. It feels more balanced and sensitive to me.  If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the Legend Tournament series.  But if budget was a factor, I'd be perfectly happy with the Victory line.

If you like St Croix, look at their Physyx line of rods. I don’t see it mentioned much. I have one in spinning, ML for small swim baits / jigs and one in casting for BFS style spinbaits.  I can’t say enough about this series. Put a Physyx in one hand and a Poison Adrena in the other, it will be difficult to tell which is which. Casting accuracy, off the charts. Just find the power for your frog duties.

I actually love both of these lines but respectfully disagree. Mostly because personally think the Adrenas with that handle are extremely sensitive and would be my first choice for several of the bottom contact lures that I use, while the Physyx grips felt significantly more 'grippy' to me...almost like a wynn grip but at the same time so much better and more sensitive. For what @Sethshaun is describing the 7'4 Physyx would actually be my overall choice over the Adrena and that's even if I could pick any St Croix rod (out of all of them even the legend xtreme line).

FWIW I've got that one on my short list for next time when I'm in the market to replace what I've got now and am willing to bet it would be a great medium to heavy spinnerbait / 1oz(ish) swimbait rod as well.

TLDR I think the Adrena line and the Physyx are two of the best lines out there right now with each one doing a bit better in certain areas than the other one. For frogs and 1/2oz jigs in close quarters I'd personally go with the Physyx over the Adrena.
