FC Sniper Issues

Featured Replies

I have used FC Sniper for years. In November I purchased a couple of 600 yard spools of 16lb and 20lb Sniper. The line feels different than years past. It’s more brittle and less supple.

The 16lb I have to re-tie every fish. It abrades way quicker than normal and snaps. Lost several fish over the past couple months. Sometimes after a fish wears a fresh line, I can snap it easily with my fingers. This had never happened before.

Am I crazy? Anybody else having the same issue?

Did they change the resin formula or process? Or did they switch their resin vendor?

I am befuddled.

I had issues with it about 15-20 years ago. I bought a several spools when Gander Mountain went out of business. I thought I was getting a good deal but it had all the issues mentioned above. I haven't tried it in the past few years but since my purchase at Gander Mountain I have bought it a few times with no problems.  I have since moved on to other lines.

Where did you purchase the Sniper? Take it or send it to the supplier and request new spools after they test the line you returned.

A simple test is wrap few turns around each hand then pull to test. You shouldn’t be able to break 16 FC without a lot of effort.

I’ve used Sunline Sniper from 12#-20# (Shooter also for that matter) for years and have never had any quality control issues.

Both have been consistent in every measurable way.

I’d be looking at where you bought it and be skeptical if not at a reputable retailer

I'm about to find out which direction Sunline is going.  Just got it today, Overtex. Its supposed to be the best line they have ever made.  We will see.

Bought the line from a reputable online Sunline dealer.

Maybe I’m just losing my marbles. But this post-2024 line is 100% different.

I have line of the same time. Just got it mail order from phx.  Yup them.  No issues.

12 and 14lb.  Burned thru the 14 in Mexico because I was a backlash expert in my excitement

about to order more.  I’m wary of the recent complaints but until I see them myself……

I had issues with it 2 years ago with the 600 yd. spool. It felt rough, not smooth. I did not realize it till I spool 4 reels. Sent it back to Tackle Warehouse  for a complete refund. I think it is just the 600 yd spools, the 165 yd spool is not like that. I also read a review that they changed the 600 yd spool and it was something wrong with it. I like Sunline but will not buy the 600  yd spool.

In the thread on Sunline braid earliest this wee I posted a link to a video.  In that video they also address Sniper issues they've had.  Sounds like the same issues you have.

Here it is:

That line has my interest big time. Where'd you get it from?

Japan Lure Shop.

It might be a few days before I can try it out but I will post my initial thoughts when I can.

It sounds like Sunline is having some serious QC issues.  Those hookup guys are hardcore Sunline fans and for them to address it means somethings going on for sure.
