Shimano Citica 200E Problems

Featured Replies

Hi, I've made myself a problem, the cast tension on my Shimano 200E didn't seem to be working, no matter where I set it, there wasn't any difference when I engaged the reel to let a lure drop to the floor. Understood that I should be able to adjust it to slow the reel. After some fiddling around I thought I should take everything apart to clean and lube. That went from OK to bad to worse and now I'm stuck. Everything seems to be in the right place, I can turn the main shaft OK. When I put the side plate back on, everything freezes and I can't turn the shaft. If anyone has any ideas or hints to fix this I would really appreciate it. I did use the schematic so pretty sure parts are where they should be, but doesn't seem they are. Think I'll be looking for a reel repair guy if I can't get this figured out. Thanks in advance for looking at this.

It’s hard to tell without seeing it. Im sure you’ll get lots of thoughtful responses but they’ll all be shots in the dark. You can PM me and I’ll do what I can to walk you thru it. If we can’t do it that way you can send it in to my shop.

None of us can second guess your reassembly.

But the part about cast knob not working sounds like it could be missing a shim on one or both ends of spool axle.

And as guess on your reassemly sometimes a gear won't go all the way down seated properly. Some snap into place and can be kind of hard to seat them.

Sometimes a little drag grease around lower drive shaft area can help as well as holding gear with one hand and spin drive shaft while continuing to push down on gear and it slowly moves and may snap into place being careful of the pinion gear meshing correctly as it is seated.

If the gear is not seated all the way down and you try to put side plate on it could bind.

The top of pinion gear should be about level and flush to top of main drive gear. When you remove side plate take a look at this relationship between pinion gear and drive gear. It wil be obvious if not correct.

Also curious about positioning of pinion yoke. It can possibly be put in upside down. Not sure how that would affect it since I dont think I've encountered it before but another thing to consider.

If that yoke is upside down both pinion and drive gear would probably be a raised position and possibly bind when side plate put on.

This is just a long shot guess. Otherwise, you found your reel tech DVT above- or he found you!

If you do figure it out, be sure to coat the gear teeth with vapor thin coat of grease. Just barely enough to wet the gears but not so much as to sling off.

Now I'm curious. Love following threads like this.

Best to have DVL solve the problem plus professionally clean and tune your reel.

I've had the little pad/insert fall out of my cc cap on those. Mine did the same thing, then I saw it on the table...

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions on my Shimano 200E problem. Florida Fishing Fool got me thinking about having the pinion gear  (#3954) or yoke (#3495) in wrong. I did manage to get them in correct. What I eventually found the problem to be was that I had managed to put the Roller Clutch Bearing (#3947) in upside down, found out that it seems to be a One Way bearing, it only let's the handle and main shaft turn when reeling in. By accidentally pushing it out and not knowing it is directional I have spent most of 2 days wondering how I got so dumb! Again to everyone thank you for your help. Really glad I ran across this forum.

Look at the bright side, troubleshooting your own mistakes is the best way to learn.

Exactly. I thought about the AR bearing first, but discounted it because the op said this: "Everything seems to be in the right place, I can turn the main shaft OK." That is what threw me off the AR to the next issue of side plate binding. I skipped the AR this time thinking it had NOT been removed from side plate. My bad.

Glad you got it.

Also, your issue with the spool tension no longer working could be from dented metal shims under the tension cap.  If you want to continue to use spool tension you can inspect and replace the shims.  You don't have to use spool tendion as long as the reel has a functioning centrifugal brake and Shimano, in their home market, actually states that it should be set to just eliminate side to side play but you are free to do whatever you like.

No not your bad. I think I forgot to say that when I could turn the main shaft I didn't have the side plate on so the AR wasn't touching any part of the shaft. Then when I thought (big mistake) it was working I put the side plate on and I suppose the Roller Clutch Inner Tube (#3474) engaged the AR and it wouldn't turn. At the time I never knew or thought there was an AR bearing. So a lot of my bad for not knowing what  I was doing! Next time, think I'll do some research before taking things apart.

Again, I really appreciate everyone offering suggestions.

Thanks, I'll being keeping you in mind. I'm kind of stubborn so this probably won't be the last time I fix something!
