Braid?

Featured Replies

Been using PowerPro for 5 or 6 years now. I like it, just curious as to what else is out there and what makes it better than other braids. I have had the most success with the 8lb dia. 30lb test but i have to use leader. The braid itself seems to wear quick if you use bullet wts. with it directly and I dont like to use leaders because it adds another knot to fail. Which linemaker makes the smallest diameter braid for the lb test? Mainly 40-65lb range. Anybody use braid for carolina and t-rigging? If so what line do you use?

A friend of mine uses the suffix braied line and he loves it!! casts real smooth and works great on baitcasters!!! 8-)

I have been a die hard Power Pro fan. I tried the Suffix this year on some of my baitcasters because everyone suggested how great it was. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed so far with it. The only thing I could see different, the Suffix seems a little more noisier going through the guides, but on the other hand, it does seem like it may outlast the Power Pro as far as durability. I will still be fishing with both all year and see what kind of other advantages one has over the other. 8-)

One thing I did notice between the two, the Power Pro is kind of flat or oval shaped whie the Suffix is round. This gives the appearence that the Suffix might be thinner. Does that make sense? :-?

for sure thats why it works well on bait casters it has  more of a round shape than other braids. but im not sure if its actually thinner but it could be for sure!!!

It seems that everyone avoids the Stren Super Braid like the plague, but my fishin partner uses it exclusively, and he loves it. I've never seen him have issues with it.

I have used it in the past. I had a few breakoffs setting the hook and at the boat. >:) These fish were not that big(2-3lbs). No, before you ask it wasn't the hook tie, they broke above the hook. ;D I think it is fine when you first use it, but after it gets wet a few times it seems like it dry- rots or something. :) I switched to Power Pro and have not had this to happen again. ;)

Glad I just bought the Power Pro and Yo Zuri Ultra Soft!  ;)

Power Pro is great.  I think Sufix Performance Braid is better but you can't go wrong with either of these.  Power Pro frays more than Sufix.

I've heard nothing but great things about Sufix.  I'm going to have to give it a shot.

Triple Fish makes braid called Bully Braid and I am impresed with how far it casts.  It doesn't backlash as often as other braids either.  I use braid when fishing a jig or carolina rig.  I'm using 50 lb braid and with the carolina rig, I use a Triple Fish fluorocarbon leader.

hey flyphisher check this out, I started using suffix braid last year, I never used braid before so It was kind of a test. at the same time I started using it, i noticed there were a lot of carp in the local small river by my house thatwere coming up from a bigger river to spawn.  so I started using the suffix braid with a hook and some berries that were falling off the trees.  no wieght just a hook and a berry, I cought so many carp last year like 4 to 5 everyday I got tired of it, it was too good to be true. but the point I am going to make was that this river had a tone of trees on the shore line, so when I would hook a carp they would run down river for like 150 to 200 feet and I would fight them with the line pulling throgh the trees and walk all over the shore line pulling throgh branches and even logs or trees that had fallen down and the braid never broke and Im talking decent carp mostly 6 to 10 pounds but I did get one just under 15 pounds, the biggest fish I ever cought in my life, I just happened to get a picture of it too, but I dont know how to post pics on this site so I cant show you, but hands down suffix braid is tough and durable.  I would never switch to anything else.  ANd I use a leader of flurocarbon when I am fishing plastic worms, I use the double uni knot with 4 wraps for the 20 pound fluro and 5 or six wraps for the braid,  holds tight. I even tested it by going out practice casting in the water for a good 2 to 300 casts, and then came home and tested the strength after the knot had been pulled through the eyelets soo many times, and the knot still held tight.  But I have also fished texas style without a leader, and the wieght never degraded the braid so I dont think theres anything to worry about with suffix braid, awsome line. :)

I too have switched from PowerPro to Sufix. I love it. Don't get me wrong, PowerPro performs flawlessly. I just like the Sufix better. The only other line I want to try is the SpiderWire UltraCast. I have heard good things about it.

I use power pro and have no complaints.

I have had problems with stren super braid knotting up while using jerk baits...not sure if the problem was due because of the line and would be curious to know if anyone else has had problems like this.

You were wondering what company has the smallest diameter for lb test. I use 50 pund test P-Line Spectrex IV, which has the diameter of 10 pound test mono.
