Money is not evil, only the love of money.

There are several pros that use their platform to support and promote their religious beliefs. Ott Defoe, Andy Montgomery, and Edwin Evers. Andy has a religious themed boat wrap and jersey. Ott has a bible verse on his jersey.

I have a lot of respect for the pros because they are excellent fishermen.

I couldn’t ever be a “pro” like these guys. I believe in God and there is no way I’m selling my soul for money. People who behave like this have a love of money and money is evil.

"...religious comments in any form are prohibited."

I’m not a professional, but I am good at lying about the lure that caught my biggest fish. Getting paid for it would just be a bonus.

When we used to fish a lot of tournaments, I would scour the swap meet for the most ridiculous baits I could find and tie them on the rods on the deck before we went and weighed in. I came in once with 3 rods on the deck, one had a set of trout trolling cowbells on it, one had a giant saltwater squid jig and my spinning rod had a Farmer John corn dog tied to it.

I think the most important thing it tells you is that brand doesn't matter much. Don't get me wrong, I know in certain situations a particular lure might provide a particular action, and possibly produce slightly better, but for the average angler, this doesn't matter as much as the multi-million marketing departments want you to believe. As long as the lure performs, and isn't total garbage, then to me, they're all the same. Things like the great stick bait debate (Senko vs General vs Stick-O vs Dinger etc.) make me laugh (but, but, but.....the shimmy! lmao). I guess that at the end of the day it's your money, and you can choose to spend it as you see fit.

You raise a good point. Where there were radical differences between brands in the past, a lot of those lines have been blurred.

With the PE takeovers, it’s all a battle of the bean counters and everything is chasing the same lowest common denominator.

Trolling the launch ramp. Aaaahh, good times! I applaud the use of a corn dog, a Farmer John corn dog no less.

A friend and I made a 'jointed wooden swimbait' with a rubber boot tail out of a 3-1/2" diameter fence rail that was 30" long and we tied it to one of my roller guide tuna rods and would have it sticking up out of a rod holder just to watch tongues wag at the ramp. Oddly enough, it actually swam really well, LOL.

That’s a good one!!

I always enjoyed the looks and responses to the Roland Martin helicopter lure. One guy actually asked where I got it. I told him 1-800-285-57448.

Now I did not give him those actual numbers. I said something more like 1-800-bull...... And those numbers above spell it out on the old touch tone dial pad.

Geez that was over 30 years ago. Wish I still had one! I bet the looks and comments would be even better now.

I think old Roland Martin ripped the idea off from Doug Hannon and his spinning worm trick he claimed to catch 10 pounders on all the time. I have to wonder now if Doug Hannon was messing with us too!

Not to take away any credit to Doug Hannon.  He was an incredibly skilled angler that new far more about bass fishing than I ever will.  He also caught more DD bass than I will ever dream of.  I have great appreciation for his angling skills.   This was his favorite lure.

The ‘spinning worm’ catches were legit, as was his use of live bait as @king fisher mentions. Those two accounted for the vast majority of his DD bass according to all the historical research I’ve done on him.

You know when a fisherman is living when his mouth is moving!

As I said earlier pro is for promotional .

I am not a “pro” and have shared exact details on the lures used to catch my bass, including photos, believe it or not!
