Mastering Casting Distance and Accuracy - Video!

Mention before when a fishing partner tries casting my rod-reel they backlash it badly because I didn’t use brakes. Today’s reels however have different braking systems in lieu of the old centrifugal brakes and can be fine tuned for distance still minimizing braking.
I learned to cast reeks without brakes so easy for to cast long distance over 50 yards with 70 years of practice.

The one thing I will add is eye dominance, you will never be accurate unless you know your eye dominance because the target may not be where you see it.

Excellent video that everyone should look at and learn!

Lastly Glenn’s statement about casting is in the wrist is spot on!👍

I think most problems with attaining max casting distance is the tendency to pause after taking back the rod.  This disrupts the proper loading of the rod.  One should, for max distance, go back then forward without hesitation.  It's entirely different with a fly rod since one has to wait for the line to travel back to then properly load the rod when coming forward.  With spin and baitcasting try to make the stop in between as non-existent as possible.

One of the key things for distance is using 2 hands to cast.

Ironically just yesterday I was showing my 12 year old how to fast cast with flick of a wrist. He was not loading up the rod very well and using it to his advantage. Hopefully he will quickly improve on it.

Great vid by Glen again.  One thing to want to inject, be aware of wind, the strength, and direction.  You will have a lot less problem if the wind is coming from behind you.  Trying to get max distance into the wind is just asking for trouble when you have no braking on.

When trying to make casts for accuracy you are going to have to adjust aiming point for cross wind interference.  Depending on the weight of your bait, a cross wind will require adjustments to the target especially with lighter baits.  If I’m making good adjustments and hitting targets accurately I’m happy regardless of how many fish I catch that day.  It becomes a game of darts, and I’m ok with that!❤️

Short distance accuracy is very important to me, most of what I fish is close quarters.
When I do fish in more open waters, and fish hard baits, I get to really bomb them out there. It weak in comparison to what I’ve seen other people do.

I'm always living on the very edge of a backlash.  That extra foot doesn't mean anything to the bass, but for some reason means everything to me.
