I'm using 8lb Big Game mono for my Shad Rap'n, is there anything better? Maybe 6lb mono? Maybe fluoro?

I like braid for them

8 lb Big Game is .011 dia. Sunline Supernatural 8 lb is .009, 10 lb is .010 dia and . 12 lb 011 dia.

Take you pick.

@Bazoo  I have been using 8-10# PLine c21 line this season (outside of my usual mon) for lighter t rigs and cranks), which is a coploymer that is economically priced. 
8# is 0.0092” and 10# 0.0108”. 
 

It acts similarly to mono and the results this season have been most excellent. Even the 6# for my DS has been good. 
 

I have also used 12 and 15# for heavier trigs for bass fishing and jigging metal spoons for salmon and this line has impressed me. I did not lose any fish due to the line breaking. It holds knots very well including being used in tandem as a leader to braid (against salmon). 
 

Excellent quality for its sub $6 price. Walmart sold it for the lowest price in my area.

Line diameter is important.  Use it to help control the depth the lure will run.

 

 

Manufacturers’ # rating for lines is not a guarantee.  It is at best a guideline, and almost always understated.

8 pound Sufix Siege. as strong as Big Game but casts and and handles way better

Thanks @Hulkster I have used sufix mono before and really liked it.

Depending on size of lure, I like either 6lb or 8lb fluorocarbon. It helps get the lure down to the proper depth and to me, they are more of finesse bait that's somewhere between a crankbait and jerkbait. 

Shad raps are a pain in the butt to throw on anything other than a ML spinning rig which implies a certain set of line.  Chose the one that works best for you but for me that is either 6 lb mono or 10 lb braid to leader.

I've been practicing casting light lures on casting gear. Been doing okay with it. I am able to cast down to a 1/8oz X-Rap, a size 6 Shad Rap, or a size 7 Shallo Shad Rap. I'm proud of it for sure.
