Finesse jig skirt tabs

Featured Replies

I noticed when I was making an order fishing skirts site sells finesse tabs now. Obviously they are a finer silicone. Has anyone used them? Debating ordering some to swap my finesse jigs over to

I like the ones that Jewell has for their Pee Wee jigs.  I make a jig similar to theirs and sometimes I use their skirts.  I like the bass whacker, hail Mary, and first down.

My version of bass whacker

I bought some a while back to use as ‘accent’ to standard size strands.  I am pleased with the results.  If I decide to put together some finesse versions, they will definitely be my choice.

Great thank you! That’s a great idea to add them with standard tabs.

@Joedodge I like the cut of the peewee skirts as well.  Just an fyi, I think the TW pics of their jigs is a closer approximation of what they look like in hand.

I’ve layered them several different ways, but best results for me so far have been surrounding the standard strands with finer ones.  I trim back the standard size exiting the ring at the head to free up the finer ones.  The bulk of the standard size becomes the body while the finer ones provide exaggerated movement.  I particularly like them on a bladed jig.

Thank you for the advice!!

Cliff Pace Fishing has a video showing how to tie Puff Ball jigs that Mark the originator taught Cliff how to tie.

I’ve made a few puff ball style jigs. But have not fished any yet. I was curious not so much about the finesse presentation but the fact these are finesse tabs. They are thinner silicone

Just look for “ fine cut” tabs, several suppliers offer them. The frog hair silicone tabs are very fine cut.

Tom

I worry about the durability of frog hair skirts being dragged over rocks in the rivers I fish.   Is this a legitimate concern?

I didn’t know that. Thank you so much!

Oh boy, I actually thought that finesse jigs just had less strand count. I’ve got some catching up to do

They always have to me. It’s the count and the cut. But I saw these and thought it was interesting.

Ahh…thank you. Sometimes I’m like a broken elevator, stuck between floors haha

Finesse jig started out as a Puff Ball, then lion collar, now fine cut skirts and evolving. The first finesse jig I used was Skinny Bear followed by Puff Ball, still use the Lefty’s Puff Ball for deep slow shaking jig presentation with a split tail worm trailer it just works!

Thank you for the history lesson! I want to get into the puffball jigs for next year. I’ve made one. Or my version of it. Out of rubber. But they seem like a warm water fast acting presentation?

They work well shaking in place a slower presentation.

Thank you! It’s a lot of fun creating lures. And actually catching fish on them

That’s why I got into making baits a very long time ago.

All of you have been a huge help on that adventure and catching fish.
