Winter Creature Bait?

Featured Replies

Any one every fish a creature bait during the winter and if so what one and where does this shine over a jig?

I have a lot of confidence in the standard size Zoom Brush Hog on a Texas Rig during the winter if a jig doesn't seem what the fish want that day. As for colors, I only use three: Black/Red Glitter, Watermelon/Red Glitter, and Junebug.

When it’s super cold I’ve done really well on the zoom speed craw as a casting jig trailer and as a Texas rig.  Both the magnum and regular size have caught me public lake bass over 7 lbs in the cold water.  I can’t pinpoint what makes them bite it but it seems to work very well on shell bars near rock on channel swing banks on or near points with good sunlight for me.

I do good on a Baby Brush hog T rigged. Dragging slow

OSP Dolive Beaver 4in on a free rig. Works all year round but I fish it slow in the winter. The Yamamoto Kreature is another good one. I save the Brush Hogs for spring and summer. Not sure why though.

I have better luck on a lightly weighted Baby Brush Hog on a T-rig or Shakyhead during winter than I do on a jig.

I've had luck with a Zoom Super Hog, Z-hog, and a Pit Boss.  I fish them on a 1/8 oz Texas rig around rip rap.

Used to fish with so many different Zoom baits, now I use just a few.  Sadly they dont sell nearly as well as they should and so color options are minimal at best.  The super hog is a killer.  I used to cut the skirts off 5" gycb spider grubs and 3" ktech spider grubs and use them on the super and tiny brush hog and they crushed.  They still do great, but they cut the best colors, especially from the tiny hog like bluegill and alabama craw, shame.
