I haven't seen any of the yearly threads such as "What is your favorite reel?"  Has it been too warm this year?  Hasn't cabin fever set in yet?  :trumpet-027:

BTW, I've never been able to answer the favorite reel question.  Maybe if they asked for "Your favorite 20 reels" I could find an answer.  :teeth:

I don’t have it and hope I don’t get it.  I just walked in the door from a day down on Stockton lake.  It was cold and windy but the fish didn’t care.  I caught 16 bass with 5 of them keepers.

Still got a couple weeks for that here. Tomorrow before the snow flies I gotta wash the angel chalk outlines off the driveway, pick up the mines out back from the sniffing reindeer and take down the red and green crime scene tape. I’m sure I can post about cabin fever soon.

Gotta run, my lawyer is calling

I stay very busy wrastling cows in the Winter and haven't been in weeks. But Friday I'm going to drag jigs and drops spoons. It's gonna be plenty warm, 39 low 65 high. I feel like The Pointer Sisters.

Cold front the past couple days.  Currently 39 degrees.  Going to start warming up Saturday...mid 70s.  More in acceptable range now that I've lived in Florida 3 years now.  :teeth:

It's been 60 years since I last messed with any cows.

I've got some new-2-me gear I want to try.  Not sure what lures I will be taking with me.  Plan on only trying 3 or 4 (so only taking 3 or 4 rods).  Spooled up 8# AN40 on an SLX MGL 71HG.  Mounting it on a Lew's 7'6" MF Custom Pro.  Want to see how well it handles #5 Shad Raps.  Want to try my Helium 3 7'3" Light MHF with 10" unweighted ribbontails.  Not sure of reel yet but it will have braid in the 30#-45# range.

Fishing from shore so not sure if I'll have any luck.

Next time I use a spoon I will for sure have a swivel tied on.  Last time I spent a few hours casting one tied direct, I had to throw away the braid.  Was badly twisted.

I understand…..I’ve got a few.

My new favorite is a BPS prodigy, got on clearance… The old black and white model. It is an all around good darn reel and rod.

My Shimano chronarch can really bomb a top water out there.
Got a carbonlite for my worm rig…. It’s got to be the quietest reel that I’ve never heard.

Got an Ole Penn 209 that is so strong it could pull my boat under or the river bottom up …. Which ever one gave up first.
So yep …I’ve got a few favorites too.

Its been a strange winter here....we had cold temps early followed by some record highs then we got 2\3rds of our winter average allotment of snow in like 8 days then back and forth between unseasonably warm and bitter cold (-30 windchill). Work has been pretty rough so I haven't had much time to get out- had several 60ish hour weeks- in fact I haven't been on the ice yet this year or fishing in any form for probably 6 weeks. So I'm getting itchy and honestly kinda cranky.

I have an old gray Cabela's Prodigy that was made by Daiwa that I bought new on closeout.  At the end of the fishing season I sent it to a forum member for cleaning.  He was impressed by it's quality and said he planned on buying a couple for newbies to use when he took them fishing.  It's feels very solid.

My Chronarch 100B might be bigger and heavier than most of todays bass reels but is an excellent caster getting very good distance with the lures I fished with it.

Two Carbonlites were used learning to cast #5 Shad Raps.  Quite nice reels.

My only Penn is a spinning reel over 40 years old.  Won't be selling it.

Although these reels aren't at the bottom of my 'favorites' list, they aren't at the top.

EDIT: The Penn 430SS is a metal reel.  AI said manufactured in late 1980s to 1990s.  I found a thread where it said this model was discontinued in 1994 after about a 10 year run.  Following models were 4300SS and 430SSG...both graphite.

Moved to ABE area in May 1985.  Already owned this reel.
