Steez AGS "Utility Player" rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have this or know much about it?

Specs:

STAGS731MHFB | 7'3" MedHeavy, Fast, 10-20lb, 1/4-1oz, "Utility Player"

Spinnerbait/Vibrating Jig/Jig/Texas Rig/Swim Jig

I don't have any experience with this rod line but it looks intriguing.

THANKS

I don't but I'm a big fan of the 7'1 M+/XF sensor and the 7'2H/F power pitch. I bough both of mine used and feel like they are totally worth it, ranking up there as my most sensitive rods. At full retail, my enthusiasm wanes a bit. This is probably more about my personality than the rods.

Thanks.

Looking at the price I would think they would be very similar to the P5's out there.

I'm just still trying to find the "perfect" single hook moving bait rod. )

@softwateronly

I just had a flashback but maybe I'm thinking of a different rod.

Are these the rods with the different guides?

Like they break easy?

They have AGS guides. I’ve been using a Steez power pitch and a Tatula elite with AGS guides for the last 2 years and no they don’t break easily. I highly recommend the Steez rods. They are very light and sensitive.

I might just pull the trigger on it.

I'm either going with a P5, a Loomis, or maybe a Steez now.

I've got 25 days until 4/15 (not that I'm counting) to get something to my door and rigged up.

I'm hitting the water hard come 4/16. )

I have the Zillion version of the Utility Player. 7’3 MH/F and I’ve been throwing 3/8 jigs and Texas rigs with it and love it. I’d imagine that the Steez version with the AGS guides is even better.

Well quick update.

I bought this rod and it's been sitting at home ready for tax season to be over.

Still need a reel though.

Thoughts on what to get?

By far the majority of use will be a 3/8 - 1/2 oz swim jig with a 4" swimbait trailer on the back. Normally a mayor.

THANKS

What is your budget? I would go with a metanium 100 for bomb casting the swim jigs or a zillion. Maybe the hd zillion would be good for those weights?

Don't have a budget honestly. After today I'll be close to 100 hours in the office this week so splurging on a reel isn't a big deal.

More than likely ordering from Japan anyways so even a $750 reel can be had for $400 or so.

I have a couple of Steez SV TW's but didn't know if those were for more lighter baits.

Saw the Steez A II is for more heavier stuff.

IDK, I have no clue about reels (obviously). )

Sv reels are good with lighter lures but are also good with regular weight stuff like a 3/8 or half ounce. Hopefully other people will see this and give their opinions. I believe the steez a 2 would be like the zillion hd, better for heavier lures like a 1/2 ounce up. But I do know that my Metanium was absolutely sending a 3/8 ounce bladed jig. And the steez sv (17 model) was really impressing me with casting distance on the smaller 1/4 ounce bladed jig from zman that recently came out.
