Garmin striker vs helix vs lowrance hook

Featured Replies

I’m looking for a new small graph 5 inch preferably. Would yall recommend the helix, striker or hook reveal for a 14 foot jon boat? Visibility isn’t an issue with that size screen. Really just wana be able to see water temp, depth and structure

Being a Humminbird guy I recommend the Helix. It is their no frills work horse.

That’s what I have been reading. Are they fairly user friendly?

They must be because a guy who I used to fish with has one. If he can operate it anybody should.

I have a Striker Vivid 4cv that is going up for sale. I bought it midway through last summer and it has seen very little time on the water.

The Hummingbird is great because of their included maps but the Garmin units have better optic graphics and gps system. I debated this my self as I have a MinKota Terrova and the Hummingbird unit connects to it (for a price) but went with a new Garmin. I moved up to a larger unit (bigger screen) with both down & side view, which isn’t an option on (the affordable for me) Hummingbird units, it’s either on or the other…..

The 4cv is going up for sale. It’s in brand new condition with all the paperwork in the original box. Let me know if you have any interest otherwise it will be in flea market shortly.

Motoboss,

Curious what you mean about one or the other? Seems you’re saying that the HBird units come with either side or down imaging? That’s not true if you get a side imaging unit. Side imaging models have DI also.

Thank you!

Shortly after I posted this I went a ran errands. And I happened upon a display model lowrance hook 5 ss for more than 50 percent off so I went with one of those. Now just trying to learn it

I'm a Lowrance guy. Mostly because I've familiar with how to use them. Have used or owned one since 2001 in one shape or form.

I currently have a Carbon and Elite in my boat. I can try to help you should you encounter an issue.

You'll learn it better the more you use it. Trial and error.

Thanks so much man. I like it a lot so far. It’s was to navigate and set up. Just need to learn what I’m actually looking at as far as structure and such

Correct, but I also stated the “for me , affordable” units do not. You have to move to the near $900.00 range for the 2d si/di option. That’s double the amount for the “one or the other” di or si units. Which is basicly paying for the upgraded transducer to get both.

Just like adding the OneBoatNetwork you have to move into the upper price range units for trolling motor compatibility.

@Motoboss All SI units also have down imaging of the same quality and type. It’s poor nomenclature from HB, but if it has SI then it has all the other possible features (di, 2d, gps) also. The cheapest SI unit from HB is the Helix 7 SI G4 at $600. They have the MSI version for $800, though currently on sale for less.

Not to clutter the OP thread with another tangent!

Yes HB nomenclature is very confusing and being a Garmin guy it’s hard to decipher at times. I have had a Helix 7 for a short time but the transducer was wrong and it was a pain to get it resolved.

Thanks

MSI $850.00 on sale

G4 MSi $650.00 on sale

No One Boat Networking

Ok I stand corrected and did find the Helix

for $600.00 but it doesn’t network with the One Boat

that's correct. You need a model with 'N' in the name for networking. And with the discontinuation of most Helix models they have dropped that option. Going forward, the helix are intended to be smaller standalone units.
