Nasci 2500 HG FD vs Daiwa Fuego 2500 LT

Featured Replies

Guys,

I've got a $ 100.00 to spend on a new reel. Between the two is one a great deal better than the other? Please do not recommend JDM as I have a BPS gift card. Sorry if this has been beat to death. TIA, Randy

For me, they are both quite serviceable, but one weighs 1.6 ounces more than the other, which is very noticeable and you'll probably prefer the way one balances with the rod it'll be used with more than the other.

Think the latest Nasci that is supposed to be improved is $125.00 now.

I have owned a few Nasic 2500 and never had problems with them. I fished them on St Croix MoJo rods. But I think St Croix Black bass would be a better rod.

As Big Hands said, if you have access…try them on a favorite rod to see how they feel.

I’m not going to try and talk you out of either but rather suggest you check out both the BPS Carbonlite Technique Specific reel which I’ve been told is a upgraded Daiwa Regal LT or the Johnny Morris Signature Series reel which again I was told is a repainted Daiwa Fuego. I own the white and gold Carbonlite 2.0 and I bought a JM Signature Series reel last year around this time and I love them both, my reason for not buying the Daiwa models is I don’t need the line capacity of the Daiwa’s but you may not be bothered by that.

Thanks guys for the comments. I knew the Fuego was lighter but was wondering how it compared to the newer Nasci FD with it's technology. The Fuego has been around for a while and not updated,

Not that it helps but here are my thoughts -- I have a three year old version of both reels - they are both well built and have performed without any issues over the three seasons I have used them -- If I could only choose one to use it would be the Fuego as it is lighter and has been smoother for me (the vast majority of my reels are Shimano, but I would tip to Daiwa in this comparison of the reels I have) - it has been mentioned to try and get them in hand if you can - I do not have any experience with the newer NASCI

The NASCI FD is probably one of the smoothest spinning reels I’ve used. I bought a 3000 a month ago. I have Fished it once so far and it’s one of the better spinning reels I’ve used regardless of the price point. Shimano did a good design job with this reel.

I’ve obviously not tore it down yet. So I can’t comment about the internals just yet.

Although Nasci has really improved over the last 2 iteration, with a lighter weight and screw in handle, I would still take the Exceler or Fuego over it. I would consider Nasci if I were using rod that is slightly tip heavy, like a 7'3 M or 7'6 ML to help balance the outfit. Nasci might have a slight advantage when it comes to water intrusion, simply because Shimano has deleted the AR toggle where the LT frames have not.

My 17 Fuego LT 2500 has seen some serious abuse in SW environments from April to early November and heavy use in FW November to April, every year since I bought it in Sept of 18. I didnt expect it to last no more than 2 full SW seasons and it still runs. It's not as smooth as it once was, but Im confident a deep clean would solve that problem. The only precautions I took were packing the gap in the AR toggle, as well as the auxiliary and primary handle port.

A buddy of mine used to roll his yak frequently launching from the beach. He had VSs and custom rods, but after losing a few of them in the surf he started to use budget gear, which included (what I think was 2nd gen) a couple Nascis. He liked how Nasci fished over the Battles and Sheilds. He had some minor issues with Nasci that could be sorted out with a deep clean, but his complaint was that the reels felt very smooth brand new, but after a few seasons the operation would degrade, and he couldn't figure out why.

Nasci had a unique main gear. It wasnt a high polished finish like other Shimano main gears, it was black. Eventually, he found out that the Naci used a main gear that with a coating. Where the gears mate, the coating would wear and could wear unevenly for whatever reason. Once worn, that buttery feel when it was new, degraded slightly.

Not sure if Shimano still uses that coating in the newer Nasci. Even with that coating gone, the operation was still decent.

I recommend Fuego, as its my preference. The reality is that either reel is exceptional and I would imagine you would be content with either.

Amazon has the 2023 Daiwa Lexa 3000lt for $115 right now. Think Fuego but with an aluminum gear case/foot.

From what I have heard the BPS Spinning reels mentioned are Daiwas. I totally agree to look that these reels before buying the Fuego or the Nasci.

The BPS exclusive label reels are branded Daiwa products. Scheels does the same thing. It’s a win win.

Guys,

Thanks for all the replies. After trying them both out I went with the Nasci. I'll let you know after fishing with it how I like it.

Happy Good Friday.

Randy

I have a 3000 Nasci on a St Croix Premier split handle. On this rod the extra weight balances better than a lighter reel. I have a Daiwa Fuego 2500 and in my opinion the Fuego is as good as my Daiwa Tatula 2500 and Shimano Vanford 2500.
