Abu Garcia Revo SX Voltiq

Featured Replies

I have seen several videos on the reel. If it is as good as they say I want one.

I'd be willing to give it a try. I'd like to see the insides and see how well they are built.

Abu released two versions. One has an all metal frame, and the other is carbon composite.

  • Revo SX VoltiQ: Features a X2-Cräftic alloy frame. This is a metal frame designed for high corrosion resistance and rigidity.

  • Revo X VoltiQ: Features a C6 Carbon frame. This is a carbon-composite frame designed for reduced weight while maintaining strength.

Both models utilize C6 carbon sideplates.

I’m getting older now so I want to continue working smarter not harder. Not saying that you are not a hard worker, just eliminating the stupid mistakes.

You lost me on that comment. I'm not sure how my original post has anything to do with my work ethic or stupid mistakes....

Sorry for the confusion. Has nothing to do with you personally.

It has to do with the comment of working smarter and not harder. And just because someone works smarter doesn’t mean they are not hardworking, just trying to eliminate stupid mistakes. That’s all.

I do not want to be fixing backlashes or bird nests all day if I don’t have to.

I’m not perfect so I do occasionally still have a backlash here and there. So if they had a backlash free bait-caster, I would be all in if the price was right. 👍

With that type of reel, we are working smarter and not harder. 🤪

Buddy got one, fished it yesterday, I got a few casts in.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Is quieter

Did nothing for distance regardless of settings. An OG Tatula 200 with 20lb Fluorocarbon threw the same bait further.

He backlashed 4 times.

Feels like a revo that yells at you.

The junkie needed a fix and so I bought the X model. In a word...amazing. True, it does not cast quite as far as my Metanium DC but I have yet to have a real backlash with it in any casting condition. I have been stuck at home due to recent surgery and have only been casting in my driveway. It's been windy as hell lately which has not created any backlashes. Twice I made a real crappy cast into the tree on the side of the driveway and no backlash. All my other reels would have exploded. The only time it attempted to backlash was throwing a 1/3 oz jerk bait into a breeze on level 1. It picked out easily.

As far as casting distance, using a 10 gram casting weight, I can get 150+ feet with the Metanium using a single handed side arm cast. With the X, I only get 120 feet. Using a 2 handed cast it goes 145 feet. The heavier the lure the further it goes. The guy in the video was tossing close to 3/4 oz. My ultimate test is a 4" Texas rigged weightless senko which is 1/4 oz. The X gets 75 ft with absolutely no backlash. The Metanium gets 90 but it will backlash occasionally. All this on a medium extra fast Cashion Z2 and the X set on 1. I'm anxious to try skipping which I've avoided due to backlash anxiety in the past.

If you are looking for ultimate distance this isn't it. If you're looking for a carefree day casting a wide variety of lures at typical distances even when it's windy, this is it. For someone just starting in baitcasting, it's a great choice. I won't be replacing my other reels with this but it has a permanent place on my boat.

I'm casting on 1 with everything and have not had that problem. I've had all my Diawa's and Shimano's blow up in the beginning of a cast when I lower the settings to get more distance.

The best casting reel for distanceand accuracy is still the reel with no brakes or electronics. The more brakes or the more active anti backlash devices that are active will always shorten your cast distance. Best thing is to train your thumb to be the best brakes out there. Your thumb knows exactly what you are trying to accomplish with every cast. That said there will always be backlashes, just part of the fun.
