New Poop Bait: BottomUp Kunnery

Featured Replies

I'm huge into poop/bug baits and I try to get my hands on any new variations.

This is the new BottomUp Kunnery. It looks like 2 Cover Scats attached at the nose via a plastic "hinge". The wobble on the drop is incredible!

It is 3.6" and as with most poop baits, its high density/gravity weighing over 1/4oz. It is therefore designed to be thrown weightless with a 1/0 hook. It can be cast a mile!

For those that don't know, BottomUp is Kotaro Kawamura's company...the genius behind OSP's Dolive series of baits. He is a famed bank fisherman and his baits are geared specifically towards bank fisherman.

Can you hook it in the middle and wacky rig it? Or would it tear in half?

My first thought as well, seems like it would be really good if it has any action on the fall.

Here's a video with some under water action.

Free rig as well as hooked in the middle aka wacky.

Haven't tried it myself, just sharing what I found.

Very helpful video thanks.

Makes sense with it's intended purpose that it would sink so quickly with all the salt, although I like my wacky baits to fall a bit slower so I probably wouldn't use it that way.

This looks pretty cool. Thanks for posting about it. Is it heavy enough to cast on a regular bait caster worm rod? Or do you need spinning/bfs?

I've seen them using both.

With a 1/0, weight is approaching 5/16 th

It reminds me a bit of the Deps Rebound Stick

Just wanted to update:

I've been consistently fishing this bait and it produces!

But it's far more versatile than I assumed originally.

First, the shimmy and rock for such a short, chunky bait is incredible when hooked with an EWG. It's easily equivalent to a wacky rig...although no sub 4" bait I've used looks this good in that department. To get a similar shimmy from a wacky worm, you'd need a 5-6" worm. Also, because it's Texas hooked, extremely weedless.

Because of the tail action, it looks nearly like a jerk bait when fished as such. But with a far more pronounced wiggle on the drop/pause.

Because of the tail action, you can stroll it. Weightless. Which is something quite unique.

So at this point, this is a great, versatile bait and it's definitely staying in my rotation. It's really good!

As is the case with some of these JDM baits, it could be more durable. But given the incredible action, versatility and ability to cast a mile...this con is easily over looked for me.

Good look at the shimmy below:
