Lure wraps

Featured Replies

Anyone use them?

My current "system" when heading to a lake is putting all of my rods on the front passenger side of my truck. On average there's going to be at least six laid together.

I don't use any rod sleeves or wraps. Most of the rods don't have hook keepers so the baits are attached to the top of the reels.

Some days I can pull everything out without a mess, some days things can get tangled.

I recently purchased a rod that has AGS guides so for that rod, I'm ALWAYS going to have a rod sleeve on it. Thinking about getting sleeves for all of them.

This got me thinking about lure wraps. They seem like a good idea but no clue how well they work in the real world. It seems like RUST could be a potential problem. No?

Anyone use them? Thoughts?

THANKS

I do. My originals came from Field and Stream, by they're OOB. Just ordered Reaction Tackle 10pk of 8.4x4.4". Nice thick clear pvc. Once I get home I unwrap the baits to avoid rusting hooks.

I have ones similar to those posted above (many different brands have them, I have some Kast King, some 6th Sense) - but I grew frustrated when treble hooks would get caught in the velcro on the edges of the lure wraps - so I purchased a few of the ones pictures below - they are a bit clunky but it keeps the treble hooks out of ropes/carpet/my clothes/the mesh rod sleeve/anything else those things can get snagged on so the trade off of time to put the lure in them and the clunkiness is worth it to me not to have the trebles endlessly snagging things

Yes but only for multi treble baits. One brand lure jacket to avoid is KVD. The inside is faux suede and a hook magnet. Another option for staying tangle free are treble hook covers. I like the Owner brand ones. They have the advantage of being small and pocketable. I like the bait wrappers for storage and transport in the car but I like the caps for bank fishing.

I just picked up a pair for pre rigged treble hook baits. If I am using a snap I’ll jut tie on the snap and have the lure I want to use in a little plastic bin in the boat. If I am tying direct, I am putting a wrap on. Before, I just wouldn’t tie treble hooked baits on or at most I’d have one and it’s the topmost rod in the box. But this time of year I might have 3-4.

I moved to rod sleeves last year because having a dozen rods in the rod locker juts made a mess all the time and always where you least wanted it (far up in the locked). Tops of rods would go between the line and rod of another rod and then roll and twist into a mess. Sleeves are a super simple solution and aside from treble hooked baits have been great.

I started using the capsules as well. They're sometimes big and clunky but it beats getting the treble hooks stuck on stuff. So far, I really like them and they are way better than the wraps.

I use similar wraps. Normally whatever the cheapest ones I can find. The work to keep the hooks from getting caught in anything. I never really thought about a rust issue, but it shouldn't be a problem if you remove them after you get back home after each trip.

I have a closet in my storage room that has open studs on the inside. I stapled a few rows of wire to them and hang my baits there to dry that were used that day or any that got wet somehow. Rain. Whatever. Just a habit. I hope I never trip and get velcro'd to the wall via fish hooks!
