Air Carbon Guide Wrap Mesh

Featured Replies

Air Carbon guide wrap has been out for a bit and was wondering if anyone has any comments about the product.

Are you using it? Do you love it...hate it?

I personally haven't bought any and not really sure I have a need for it yet.
Can't seem to really get behind it as a guide wrap but thinking there are other uses.

I used it to relocate a couple of spinning rod hook hangers that were down in the middle of the split grip behind the reel. The wrap applied OK. Perhaps not my best work but it certainly is faster.

Sorry, no pictures.

I plan on getting a little more adventurous this winter and use it to secure an entire guide train. Seems strong enough when applied properly.

Esthetically it does IMO, appear to lack that traditional pop that a sweet tight thread wrap offers.

But that's just me.

It seems like a good spot...until you start using the rod. Hate em in the split area.

Again...couldn't agree more.

I've built about 5 rods with it so far and several buddies hook holders. I really like it. I built a all carbon fiber mesh rod with carbon fiber handles and reel seat. Its super light and sensitive.

OH...very cool. Tell me...how was trying to line up the guides...this can be a pain even with the mesh.

I thought it was pretty easy. The guide foot sticks to the ACM. From there I just pressed it down and wrapped it around. I use latex gloves since the stuff is so tacky. Also if you use it make sure you use color preserver before epoxy. Thats what NFC recommends.

Absolutely! There is much confusion about this because most have not watched the video by Aleks Maslov of NFC in which he explains that the CP is not for color preservation; it is to provide a chemical reaction with the adhesive to allow epoxy to penetrate to the blank through the carbon mesh. Here is a very good (a bit long but worth it IMO) podcast on it: https://anglersresource.net/mastering-rod-building/

Here are some pics of what now is my favorite rod. Nothing fancy just performance.
