Went bow fishing last night

Featured Replies

Went out with a co worker on the river below one of our major lakes. He’s got a really nice aluminum deck boat he built from aluminum sheets and tubes himself. What a cool change. Running the river at night. And shooting carp and gar. Doesn’t replace bass fishing by any means. But it was a pretty cool change of pace.

Nice. I bowfished 3 or 4 nights a week for 12 years. It's the 2nd funnest thing you can do with your clothes on. Here in Georgia I shot year round. The carp(40.1 lbs) below I shot in January with 30 degree air and 45 degree water. You can also BF and gig saltwater(flounder pictured) which very fun too.

Dang!!! That’s aweosme!! I’ve gives flounder I grew up in Florida. But never bow fished. We had heavy rain and they were opening the d**n so the water depth was changing and it was muddy. The motor would stir up the carp and get them jumping like crazy when we would run to another creek or cove. But only thing we could see near the surface was gar. But we had a blast. He used to guide for bow fishing off his boat. So it was cool to go with someone who knew exactly what to do.

That’s awesome you did it so long and we’re so successful. It definitely makes me wana put lights on my boat haha. My trolling motor wouldn’t fight the river current well but I could go to the bigger lakes here that have carp and gar!

I mostly bowfished clear grassy lakes with an old Minn Kota 40 lb Power Drive. Here's a few more pics. Sorry for the old phone quality pics. My 45 gallon fish barrel with rope handles that I filled 3 times while solo shooting on Lake Eufaula on the Ga. side. 400 lb of fish in a barrel is hard to handle solo.

Gar is actually really good. Just a pain to clean

Gar is delicious fried. It's shocking how much meat there is on a gar. It's like backstraps but pure white boneless fish. During several fish fries with my family the gar always disappeared the quickest.

Exactly! It’s the whitest meat you’ll ever find. And there is a ton on them!

I don't do it as much as I use to, but it sure is fun. We use to go out on the river a couple times a week during the summer months and try to shoot silver carp out of the air while it was light and then spot light bigheads when it got dark.

That’s exactly what we were after! We had heavy rain and the water was straight mud. We could get them jumping and stirred up with the outboard running down the river. But couldn’t find any to shoot
