Only one baitcast rod & one spinning rod.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I know it's ideal to get a rod for each technique. Such as crankbait, topwater, worm, etc. But, since I am bank fisherman, I can only take two rods at time.

What do you guys think of following combo?

Combo A.   Loomis MBR783C & Loomis SJR782

Combo B.   Loomis CBR783 & Loomis BSR802

Combo C.   St. Croix TBC66MHF & St. Croix TBS68MF

OR

Combo D.   Falcon Cara CCB-4-166-MR & Falcon Lowrider LFS-4-166

I am thinking of crankbait, topwater, jerkbait & spinnerbait with baitcast. Worm, jig & finnesse with spinning.

Do you guys think this will work?

I am returning newbie (20 years away from fishing) so, please don't be shy about correcting my mistake. ;)

Thank you.

You have obviously done your homework on the gear that should be best suited for you. I REALLY like choice #1 . However, if this were advice for every member of this Forum, I might kick it up a notch. I enjoy fishing technique specific equipment, but I think EVERYONE could do all of their fishing with two rods. Your choices would be very close to mine:

Baitcaster: MBR844C

Spinning: SJR843S

I have NO agrument with your choices. Excellent research, you are to be commended.

Thank you for kind ward Roadwarrior.

I did a lot of research at this forum ;)

I looked up spec for MBR844C. Never thought about using heavy action rod.

What do you find advantage over M or MH action rod?

As a general rule, I prefer Medium Power rods because the fish you catch are more fun to fight on this rod rating. However, choosing a rod's power rating is also about the weight of the lures you fish. As a finesse fisherman, the majority of the time I would fish the Medium Power spinning combination. With a Heavy Power baitcasting rig you can throw medium weight baits, but it also gives you the option to work with heavier lures.

And to think, I used to value your opinion.  What if my wife reads this?!!!!!!  Dispicable.  ;D

I own 3 set ups (2 bait casters 1 spinning) but most of the time only take 2 with me. That cuts down on the blood pressure spikes from fighting all the under growth when bank fishing ;D. Haven't had a chance to fish with the caliber of rods you are talking about (would sure like to). RW knows his rods pretty well and it sounds like he agrees with your choices.

On an earlier post I think you mentioned a boron rod that a friend had given you, did you give it a try? If so, what did you think about it? I really liked the one I had ;)...

Im with you on this .....2  if all i had was 2 rods id think the world was gonna end

Combo C: but I would go with the TBC70MHF (Sweeper Spinnerbait) and the TBS68MXF. The 7ft sweeper spinnerbait rod will give you longer casts and better hook sets from shore then the 6'6'' jig and worm rod.
