Help Gman spend some dough

Featured Replies

i'm in the market for another spinning rod.  Not sure exactly what I want but here are the musts

Loomis

Approx weight range 1/8-3/16

prefer 7-7'4"

Price.  Doesnt matter

What I will be using it for is shaky heads, drop shot, smallie fishing small baits.  Little jigs. and finesse worms.

Here is one I'm really looking at.

Any other suggestions?

Well, my partner has that rod and I have fished it on occasion. This is a fine rod for fighting smallmouth, but I think the tip is too soft for plastics. We fish live bait on a split shot rig with circle hooks, so there is no "hook-set." I prefer a firmer tip for soft plastics: SJR843S.

Also, if you are comfortable with a softer tip, I would HIGHLY recommend the PR844S over the Bronzeback. This is my favorite rod. This is a saltwater (popping) rod and the G.Loomis ratings seem to be different than those for freshwater. The rod is rated Medium Power/ Fast Action, but it's really Moderate Action. Catching smaller fish on the PR844S is still fun, but if you hook-up with a 30 lb drum, no worries...This G.Loomis can handle practically any freshwater fish and this is my "smallmouth rod."

GMAN,

Along the lines of RW's suggestion, why not look into having something like a P843 or P844 GLX custom built, you can get everything you want and nothing you don't!

I forgot about the PR rods.  Didnt even think about it.  After reading RW's post there is a PR842s that I liked alot.  I've got a BSR852 for my senkos and stuff.  I also saw a green water rod on there but have no clue and never seen one.  Liked the specs though.

I like the thought of custom rod and might have to look into that more.  But that might be more then a loomis not sure though.

I've been looking at alot of them lately and ran across a 7'6" crankbait rod.  I threw my buddies awhile back and it was awsome for dd22's.  Nothing like a big crankin stick.

More I think about it I migh have to buy 2 rods.  I've saved up for a GLX but I could buy both those rods almost for the price of a glx.  Its like 2 for 1 deal ;)

Saw a St C Tourney Legend Drop shot rod this morning, brand new for $145 over at BFHP this morning.

I see it's already sold though.

I just purchase that rod a couple days ago.  I use it for plastic.  Works great.  Paired it with a Shimano Sustain 2500.  Caught the reel on sale at BPS
